Pilots coming into LAX airport in the Los Angeles area on Sunday reported something that sounded right out of a movie from nearby Hollywood. A person flying in a jetpack.Audio from LiveATC.net and shared by several local media show crews on both Southwest Airlines and American Airlines flights saw the person.Pilot: “Tower, American 1997, we just passed a guy in a jetpack”Tower: “American 1997, OK, thank you, were they to your left side or right side?”Pilot: “Off the left side at ah maybe 300-ah-300 yards or so, about our altitude”Tower: “OK American 1997”--Tower: “Southwest 6046”Southwest Pilot: “Tower, we just saw the guy pass by us”--Tower: “JetBlue 23 please caution a person with a jetpack reported 300 yards south of the LA final at about 3000 feet”Pilot: “JetBlue 23 we heard and are definitely looking”Tower: “Only in LA”--For reference, the tallest building in the US, One World Trade Center in New York, is 1,776 feet tall. The average altitude for skydiving in this country is about 10,000 feet in the air. The pilots claim the person with a jetpack was flying at about 3,000 feet in the air.Local law enforcement is investigating the reports. 1169

People are using a chemical used to calibrate machines to get high that is so powerful it's nearly Narcan resistant.Some dealers are passing off this new drug as fentanyl. But the reality is much worse. It's a hazardous chemical mixed with fentanyl called tetrahydrofuran fentanyl."It's got other opioid effects. Some of these things are 100 or 1,000 times more potent than heroin," said Dr. Michael Miller of Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc.The drug is new to Wisconsin, but law enforcement has found it in Florida and Georgia. Last week, a Pennsylvania man, Jeremy Achey, 43, was sentenced to life in prison for supplying tetrahydrofuran fentanyl.According to federal court records, a man overdosed and his fiancee died when they bought it from him over the internet. Prosecutors say the seller told customers, "It is best if you snort it, shoot it, or smoke it."Miller said most addicts do not even know they are taking this synthetic fentanyl."Most people who are exposed to synthetic fentanyls are not using them intentionally. They are not desiring to use them because they understand that the potency is so high it could be lethal," Miller said.Achey is believed to have mailed thousands of packages containing the drug to customers throughout the United States. In order to survive it, Miller warned you would need a large dose of Narcan."It's the fentanyl part that is really fatal because it shuts down your breathing and you die instantly," said Miller. "You use as much opioid reversal agent as you possibly can, you support them, you put them on a ventilator." The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office could not say where the person who died in Milwaukee got the tetrahydrofuran fentanyl. But they warn if one person has it likely others do as well. 1808

Police in Osceola County, Florida said a man was locked up after he was accused of trying to kill sex offenders.Officers said he tried to set the men on fire.Jorge Porto-Sierra has been formally charged with four counts of attempted premeditated murder.Osceola County detectives said the 50-year-old confessed to deputies he tried to kill multiple people at the Friendly Village Inn on Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway.After his March 7 arrest, Porto-Sierra said he arrived at the motel to "barbecue all the child molesters on fire and kill them."WESH 2 News in Orlando confirmed at least two of the four victims are convicted sexual offenders.Witnesses told deputies Porto-Sierra made several threats, screaming, "I'm going to kill you, child molester," and allegedly began throwing gasoline on their front door.Porto-Sierra is accused of breaking a hotel window to pour gasoline inside.Witnesses said he was carrying a cigarette the whole time.Another couple said Porto-Sierra rammed their car and poured gas on it.When asked by deputies why he did not carry out his threats, Porto-Sierra said, "You got here too soon."Porto-Sierra remains behind bars at the Osceola County Jail.He's being held on no bond.  1219
