Workers with the state Agriculture Department had spent weeks searching, trapping and using dental floss to tie tracking devices to Asian giant hornets, which can deliver painful stings to people and spit venom but are the biggest threat to honeybees that farmers depend on to pollinate crops. BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah -- The Utah community is mourning the loss of one of its own, a U.S. Air Force pilot from the state who died during a routine training mission off the northern coast of England.1st Lt. Kenneth “Kage” Allen grew up in Box Elder County, but recently moved overseas where he was serving with the 48th Fighter Wing based in the U.K.He had been there for a little over three months when his plane crashed during the training mission.“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our airman and mourn with his family and his fellow reapers in the 493rd Fighter Squadron,” said Col. Will Marshall, Commander of the 48th Fighter Wing.Marshall said Allen was the assistant chief of weapons and tactics for the 493rd Fighter Squadron.On Monday morning, Allen was flying a F-15C Eagle at about 9:40 a.m. when the aircraft crashed into the North Sea.“The outpouring of love and respect from our communities has been a ray of light in this time of darkness,” said Marshall.Allen's death comes just one day after his 27th birthday, and just one week after he recorded himself singing “Time in a Bottle” for his new bride.“Oh my sweetheart Kage,” wrote Hannah Allen on Facebook. “I think I could fill an ocean with the tears I’ve cried today.”The couple were married on Feb. 20, right before Allen joined the 48th Fighter Wing.Family members wrote on Facebook that Lt. BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A man is under arrest after police say several pipe bombs were found near a Florida strip mall Wednesday night.Gregory Haasze, 34, has been arrested on 26 counts of making, possessing, throwing, projecting, placing, or discharging a destructive device.Police said the bombs were found in the area of Congress Avenue and Old Boynton Road in Boynton Beach following reports of a loud noise in the area on Wednesday.Officers temporarily shut down nearby roads and businesses as they investigated the suspected pipe bombs. They also evacuated apartments, homes and stores in the area out of an abundance of caution.The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad Unit responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.A resident told WPTV she had to wait for more than an hour to get home."Since the Fourth of July, there have been really loud noises in the neighborhood," the neighbor said. "The only thing that could make that kind of sound is a bomb. I've never heard anything that loud before. When you're outside it hurts your ears it's so loud."Police said residents were eventually able to get back in their homes by 12:30 a.m. on Thursday. 1181

Bottles of water, bags of clothes and foldout tables are set up and ready at a Phoenix church awaiting the next busload of asylum-seeking families released by ICE.Pastor Angel Campos at Monte Vista Cross-Cultural Church confirms his church is temporarily housing families upon their release from ICE. "They leave their homes; they leave everything," Campos said. "They say that their belongings mean nothing without their lives."Back in October, ICE officials announced they were releasing an increased number of families amid a surge of them showing up at the border and a limit to how long they can detain families. "You hear the stories; you hear the pain," Campos said. An unknown number of Phoenix-area churches are temporarily taking in the families upon their release from ICE as they work to connect with other relatives across the country. The families are equipped with ankle monitors and still have to go through the immigration court process.Statistics show the number of "family units" that are apprehended along the Southwest border has surged in recent months. Campos says he reached out to ICE to offer up his church to help with this process. He says he is surprised by how many people have shown up in buses, estimating more than 800 people have come through his church since early October, with the most recent group of people arriving this past Thursday. Campos said nearly everyone from that group has since left the church. "We have to be strong, not to fall in love with them so much that it hurts you when they leave," Campos said. Campos said donations, including clothes and bottled water, are welcome.  1692
