In the record-setting 562 participants of this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee, you will find nine sets of siblings. Sisters Triyatha and Pranathi Jamulla are one set of the siblings, and they think it’s pretty cool they both made it to the national competition. Last year, Triyatha watched Pranathi come in 25thplace in the National Spelling Bee, and it made her want to compete too. This year, the sisters tied in their school’s spelling bee, both earning a trip to nationals.It gave Pranathi a built-in study buddy.“Before, when it would just be me sitting at home and my sister would be out somewhere and doing something else, like it wouldn't be that motivating to study because I know like I'd rather be where she is,” Pranathi says. “And now that we're both in the room studying, it makes it easier to study, I guess.”It also meant Triyatha had an expert to tell her what to expect."Yeah, she definitely helps me to stay calm and composed and gives me a few tips on like winning languages and language patterns,” Triyatha explains.Their mom, Prasanna Jammula, says it’s easier having two spellers in the house.“They quiz each other. That's how they are learning, too," she says. "Now, we are on the same page right. INDIANAPOLIS — In her speech Friday night at the Young Democrats of America convention, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised the past ideals and current policies of the Democratic Party.She praised the party’s history on the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. “We are not a monolith, and we don’t want to be,” she said. But she also touted the diversity of the current House Democratic Caucus, which she said is 60% women, people of color and LGBT.“Our diversity is our strength,” she said. Pelosi then went into more detail about the party’s current efforts in Congress, starting with the recent passage of an increase of the federal minimum wage to per hour. Both Democratic representatives from Indiana voted in favor of the proposal, but it is very unlikely to pass the Senate. She discussed what other things House Democrats are working on in Congress, such as net neutrality, gun violence prevention and climate change. Leanne Carrasco ordered 95 pizzas. The high school senior and her friends filled up goody bags and awaited a celebratory crowd. But this was not your typical graduation party.Carrasco didn't want that. Instead, she gave back with a pizza party at a homeless shelter for women and children in Houston, Texas."Not a lot of people have the same options as me. It's not fair," she told CNN. "There are a lot of people who need help. So I give it."It took her a month to prepareCarrasco had volunteered before, with her family, at the Star of Hope Family Development Center. But this time was different.She enlisted a bunch of her friends and got to work.In the month leading up to the party they collected toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand wipes and deodorant. They packed them into 400 hygiene bags to hand out to residents of the shelter.On Sunday, it was party time. The pizza was a hit, and so were the bags.But Carrasco and her friends gave the residents something more than just food and soap."They (the teens) had respect for the these people. They saw them as peers," said Scott Arthur, a spokesman for Star of Hope. "The residents saw this as a validation that people do care."For the shelter residents, it was a magical dayIn all Carrasco and her friends served about 200 people."It was a very magical day," Arthur said. "It gives you a hope for the youth of today. They (the high schoolers) were able to think of other people."Residents of the shelter gave Carrasco a standing ovation and lined up to hug her, moved by her compassion."I told her this was her final exam, and she got an A plus," Arthur said.But the praise won't go to Carrasco's head anytime soon. The graduating senior plans to enroll this fall at Briar Cliff University and study nursing."I think you should always know you're lucky to have what you have," she said. However, more companies are now making it “Casual Friday” every day.At the digital media firm Inboxlab, employees get to wear jeans, t-shirts and sneakers to the office."When people are wearing something they enjoy wearing or feel comfortable in, they will actually be able to perform at their best," says Sean Devlin, the vice president of operations at Inboxlab.Employee Victoria Hurd agrees, saying previous jobs did not give her the freedom she has at Inboxlab."The median age was 45 to 50. The expectation was completely different than what it is here,” she explains. “I had to wear a pantsuit, nice shirt, heels and things like that every single day. It was not stifling, but I felt regimented."Many people think the trend of dressing more casual has come from the younger workers."There’s a lot more of this millennial vibe and people wanting to get much more out of their lives than just at work," Hurd says.Dressing casual and comfortable is great, but there is such a thing as too casual."You don't want someone in a tracksuit, but you do want them to feel comfortable with what they are wearing,” Devlin says.Since every day is casual day, the company treats Fridays a little differently; they have theme days. Last week, the team dressed for Pride Week. "It’s more relaxed. Learning how to navigate the online world safely is challenge for anyone, but it can be especially difficult for those who didn’t grow up with technology.Pierre Vidoni is 83-years-old and decided to sign up for a digital class at his local library."Young people less than 50 years old grew up with computers, so they understand the nuances of computers," Vidoni says. Amy Halfback teaches the privacy class and says many of her older students say they feel stupid."They are nervous interacting in the online world," she says. From malware, internet scams and phishing, it’s easy for anyone to get taken advantage of online. However, Vidoni says he’s not worried about privacy online.According to the Journal of Public Health, between 2 to 3 million seniors get scammed each year. A few years ago, that was Vidoni. Hackers took over his home screen and locked him out of his computer."They got into my computer, and in order to get it back, I had to pay them money,” Vidoni recalls. “And it was no small amount. It added up to about 0." His family still teases him for falling for the scam.
