Vance Jr. can get access to President Donald Trump's personal and corporate tax returns.The ruling by a three-judge panel in New York rejected the president’s argument that the subpoena for his taxes should be blocked because it was too broad, and could be seen as political harassment from the DA.Vance says his office will not enforce the subpoena for 12 days in exchange for the president’s lawyers agreeing to move quickly, according to the New York Times.It has been over a year since the district attorney first subpoenaed eight years of Trump’s tax returns and other financial records as part of an investigation into the president’s business practices.Wednesday’s decision is the fifth time courts have rejected Trump’s attempts to block the subpoena. His lawyers are expected to appeal the ruling to the United States Supreme Court.Vance has not revealed the details of his office’s investigation, however court papers suggest they are looking at a range of potential crimes including tax and insurance fraud and falsification of business records, according to the New York Times. 1197

New research confirms that temperature and symptom checks miss many coronavirus infections. A study published Wednesday found that these measures failed to detect infections in new Marine recruits before they started training, even after several weeks of quarantine. Many recruits had no symptoms yet still spread the virus. The work has implications for colleges, prisons, meatpacking plants and and other places that rely on symptom screening. Doctors say more COVID-19 testing is needed, especially in younger people who often don't develop symptoms.“We spent a lot of time putting measures like that in place and they’re probably not worth the time as we had hoped,” said Jodie Guest, a public health researcher at Atlanta’s Emory University who had no role in the research.“Routine testing seems to be better in this age group” because younger adults often have no symptoms, she said.The study was led by researchers from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York and the Naval Medical Research Center.It involved 1,848 Marine recruits, about 90% of them men, who were told to isolate themselves for two weeks at home, then in a supervised military quarantine at a closed college campus, The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, for two more weeks. That included having a single roommate, wearing masks, keeping at least 6 feet apart and doing most training outdoors. They also had daily fever and symptom checks.The recruits were tested for coronavirus when they arrived for the military quarantine and 7 and 14 days afterward. Sixteen, or about 1%, tested positive on arrival and only one had any symptoms. However, the risk of serious bleeding far outweighed the benefit of taking the drug.The study found aspirin was not effective in preventing heart attacks or strokes for moderate risk patients, because they had other health issues, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol and smoking.Doctors also cautioned using fish oil supplements, instead of aspirin, would have similar disappointing results. New York, Connecticut and New Jersey asked Wednesday for travelers from states with high coronavirus infection rates to go into quarantine for 14 days in a bid to preserve hard-fought gains as caseloads rise elsewhere in the country.“We now have to make sure the rates continue to drop,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday at a briefing in New York City, joined via video by Govs. Phil Murphy of New Jersey and Ned Lamont of Connecticut, both fellow Democrats. “We also have to make sure the virus doesn’t come on a plane again.”What was presented as a “travel advisory” that starts Thursday affects three adjacent Northeastern states that managed to check the spread of the virus this spring as New York City became a hot spot for the pandemic.Travelers from more than a half-dozen states, including Florida and Texas, are currently impacted. The quarantine will last two weeks from the time of last contact within the identified state.The announcement comes as summer travel to the states’ beaches, parks and other attractions — not to mention New York City — would normally swing into high gear.It also marks a flip-flop in the COVID-19 battle since March, when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, both Republicans, separately issued orders requiring people flying in from the New York tri-state area, where cases were surging, to quarantine for 14 days.Now, Florida and Texas are among the struggling states being eyed warily by the three northern governors.“As Governor DeSantis said on Saturday, Governors have a prerogative to do what they need to do,” press secretary Cody McCloud said. “He just asks that Floridians not be quarantined in the nursing homes in New York.”Murphy called a quarantine the smart thing.“We have taken our people, the three of us, these three states, to hell and back,” Murphy said. “The last thing we need to do right now is subject our folks to another round.”The states will relay the quarantine message on highways, at airports, and through websites and social media.
