Manchin said he is concerned that the postal service will be less accessible to his constituents.“As a public service, USPS is legally required to deliver mail, to all postal addresses in all regions, at a flat rate, no matter how far it may have to travel,” Manchin said in a letter to DeJoy. “The Service’s affordability and continued accessibility are essential for rural communities, especially those with high rates of poverty. In many areas where reliable broadband is not an option, the Postal Service is their only link to medicine, social security checks, and family members.In recent years, the USPS has seen a decrease in mail volume, going from 170.9 billion pieces of mail in 2010 to 142.6 billion in 2019. Meanwhile, USPS continues to operate routes six days a week.To combat the decrease in revenue, DeJoy wants to implement reforms and cut overtime from the budget. POMONA (CNS) - Pomona police asked for the public's help Thursday evening in identifying an armed robbery suspect believed responsible for at least three recent gas station robberies and other attempted robberies in the city.During these robberies, the suspect walked into the businesses, pulled a weapon and demanded money from a cash register, then ran from the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department.The latest incident occurred Saturday and the suspect got into a fight with the victim and escaped with a large amount of money, police said. The attack was caught on surveillance video at the business, showing the suspect struggle with the victim, before the victim fights him off.The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, approximately 40 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes and a mustache. President Donald Trump designated April 2018 "Second Chance Month" in a presidential proclamation on Friday.The proclamation states that during the month of April, the United States will emphasize the need "to provide opportunities for people with criminal records to earn an honest second chance."A bipartisan group of senators, including Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois and Republican Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, introduced a resolution last year to make April 2017 "Second Chance Month" to honor efforts to help those with criminal records become productive members of society.
