LAS VEGAS — A video of a "cowboy arrest" in Las Vegas is going viral. The video has been viewed more than 231,000 times (at the time of this writing) on Facebook and has been shared almost 6,000 times. So I come running down through there and I almost knocked over this older gentleman and I felt bad but I got to them and right when I got to him but they all followed me we're like 60 guys behind us," added Cox.One of the people in the stolen car jumped a fence at the park and began running across the fairgrounds. That's when the cowboys got involved. They yelled at man to stop and threatened to lasso him if he didn't."By the time I kind of had my rope up and [the suspect] had his hands up, right when I was thinking about roping him," said Cox.According to a man who saw what happened, the alleged car thief immediately dropped to his knees and a couple of the cowboys pinned him to the ground until the police officers arrived and took him into custody. But I was like, I can relate to all of them, so I like it now,” said Castaneda.Castaneda is getting ready to graduate in May. She has a 1-year-old son named Eliin. Normally, she’d have to find daycare for him if she wanted to go to high school. That’s if she could afford it. “I’m like literally so close to him. I can come check him anytime. I probably wouldn’t even finish high school to be honest,” said Castaneda.This high school has daycare on-site, so new moms like Emily can continue their education. And if they need to see doctor for anything that moms, their kids, or expecting moms might need, they don’t have to go far. “We do prenatal care, we do their physicals for the children, we offer mental health services, we do dental services, any sick visits. We try to make it as easy as possible,” said Linda Almanza, a medical assistant at the clinic.The clinic, in partnership with Denver Health, helped Rebecca Roldan get through a scary moment when her second daughter had respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.“She almost passed... I was just scared, and like coming to the clinic, they helped me. Like you don’t have to be afraid, we’re here to help with whatever medical you need,” recalled Roldan.Roldan’s daughter was in the hospital for a while, but now she’s out and healthy.Not only is the school helping her with her daughter's health issues and finishing high school, but they’re helping her look to her future. She wants to be a mental health therapist.“I’m taking phlebotomy and medical office so it gets me like in the doorstep," she said. "I’m getting an internship. I don’t know where yet, but this summer I’ll be doing a medical internship."That’s high-level training for a high school student. But Florence Critterton provides what they call a MEDConnect program, courses and work-based learning experiences for students interested in a career in the healthcare or biomedical sciences field.There are a handful of schools that offer daycare across the country from LA to Maine, but the staff here thinks the on campus clinic makes it one of a kind. “This is the only Florence Critterton with a high school and a clinic attached, and a daycare,” said Almanza.While they think they’re unique, the people who work at Florence Critterton would love to see this type of school all over the country.“This could be a role model to a lot of places in America," said Almanza. If you recently waited in a crowded doctor’s office or you’ve called to make an appointment and were told the next slot available is in several weeks or months, you’ve already experienced the effects of America’s doctor shortage.It's become more common for doctors, like New Jersey urologist Dr. Thomas Mueller, to practice with a packed patient schedule."The amount of patients we see is borderline insane," Mueller says.“I'll be the first one to say I don’t think it’s the best thing in the world," he says. "The things that I do to combat it is I just invest a lot of time beforehand.”Mueller and the team of physicians at Delaware Valley Urology each see upward of 50-60 patients a day.And that’s still not enough. "With the baby boomers becoming, you know, in their 70s, there are a lot of people to be seen," the doctor says. "The overall structure of medicine, at least as far as training is concerned, they’ve never really increased the enrollment in medical schools.”Unless significant steps are taken, the Association of American Medical Colleges predicts the shortage is only going to get worse.“I think I am at my max (amount of patients)," Mueller says. "I don’t think I can do a whole lot more."To help with the issue, legislators are proposing several bills that would raise grant money for more medical residency slots, and to make it easier for foreign doctors to practice in the U.S.In addition, medical schools have increased scholarships. Some have even created specific residency slots for those willing to practice in rural areas.“There are folks who think that there is a shortage," says Dr. Bob Motley. "I think we have as much of a problem with the maldistribution.”Motley runs Thomas Jefferson University's Physician Shortage Area Program. “We have about 50% of all physicians in Pennsylvania that are actually clustered in three counties," he says. "But 75% of Pennsylvanians actually live outside those areas.”Motley’s program has graduated roughly 400 doctors, and almost 80 percent are now practicing in rural communities hit the hardest by this doctor shortage."There's a lot to be learned in health care and we definitely have not figured it out," Mueller says. "It’s not a broken system by any stretch of the imagination but it’s things that are ever changing. And I think everyone is striving to make it better.”In addition to seeing 50 to 60 patients a day, Mueller also trains residents to handle the patient load as it is now."It's not for the faint of heart," he says.
