Officers rescued a couple in Connecticut early Wednesday morning who were caught in a flood after a woman yelled to her iPhone “CALL 911” to summon police.According to the Guilford Police Department, the couple was crabbing when the husband fell into the water and was trapped in the entrance of the sluice pipe that runs under the roadway. The woman was holding onto her husband, fearing if she let go, he would get sucked in.Two officers from Guilford Police arrived, and said they retrieved a rope to assist the woman in saving her husband.“One of the key reasons officers were able to locate the victim so quickly was because his wife had SIRI activated on her iPhone," the Guilford Police Department said. “Her phone was a significant distance away from where she was trying to save her husband and she could not let go of him. She shouted to SIRI to "call 911" and the phone immediately dialed and made contact with 911 fire dispatchers.”The phone’s GPS technology gave officers the location, allowing for a swift rescue.Amazingly, no one was injured from Wednesday’s incident. 1091

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — A group of Oceanside teenagers fought off a man who attacked them on a bike trail Friday.The kids were walking on a bike path west of Fireside Park when the suspect called out to them, according to Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey. When the kids didn't respond, the suspect charged at them.The suspect pushed the kids to the ground and they rolled down an embankment, where the suspect continued attacking, Bussey said.The group fought back, one teen hitting the man with a stick to fight him off, before running to a house to call police.Police returned to the area and found the man after searching with canines and a drone. The man, identified as 55-year-old Sampson Marinanito. Police say Marinanito had a pair of metallic nunchucks he tried to toss away.Marinanito was taken into custody for child abuse, and possession of nunchucks and narcotics. 892

ORLANDO, Fla. — Fans are calling on Disney parks to re-theme one of their most iconic rides.A petition posted on Change.org asks Disney to remove all references to its 1946 film "Song of the South" from Splash Mountain.The petition says the movie "steeped in extremely problematic and stereotypical racist tropes." The petition suggests Disney should re-theme the ride around "Princess and the Frog." Tiana, the main character in the film, is recognized for being Disney's first African-American princess.The petition had more than 8,000 signatures as of Thursday morning. The petition's current goal is set at 10,000 signatures.The call for change comes as the country continues to hold discussions surrounding racial injustice in the wake of George Floyd's death in Minneapolis police custody.Floyd's death caught the nation's attention after bystander video showed the 46-year-old man struggling to breathe while in police custody in late May. The video showed a white police officer, later identified as Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes.Chauvin was initially charged with third-degree murder before charges were upgraded to second-degree murder. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A fire broke out Tuesday morning at Fire Station 3 in Oceanside when no first responders were inside to put it out. The flames broke out in a rear dorm room on the second floor adjacent to a furnace in the wall, said Oceanside Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Stein. People driving by saw the fire at 3101 Oceanside Blvd. and reported it, said Stein. Twenty-seven firefighters from Carlsbad and other stations in Oceanside responded to the scene to put out the fire. The five Oceanside firefighters who were on duty with Station 3 were not available at the time the flames broke out. The second floor of the station was damaged by smoke and flames, Stein said. The first floor had minimal damage. “This is really a hit to the city because it’s centrally located,” Stein said. Although Stein did not have an estimate on when repairs would be completed, he said Fire Station 3 firefighters would be displaced at least a month. “We’re relocating them to other fire stations throughout the city,” said Stein. The investigation into the cause of the fire is being handled by the Vista Fire Department. 1136
