CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Hundreds gathered on Coronado Saturday morning for the 2019 Witches Tea. The event, organized by Rebecca Geiss, started in 1999 with nine women. Since its humble origin, the event has exploded in size. This year, 254 people showed up for the 21 and older event. The celebration centers around attendees dressing up as witches, dancing, and having a spooktacular time on beautiful Coronado. Photos from this year’s event show a multitude of creativity with some dressed as Glinda the Good Witch from “The Wizzard of Oz.” Other photos show some of the women embracing group costumes. Throughout the day, the women take buses to establishments throughout Coronado and San Diego. Attendees aren't told where they're going, adding an element of surprise to Witches Tea. In 2018, all the proceeds from the event went to the C4 Foundation, which provides support and resources through science-based programs to active-duty Navy SEALs and their families. Conditions at the border are getting worse as desperate migrants wait for asylum. Many have given up hope in their desperate hour. The shelter where migrants are staying is packed to the brim. It’s said to be completely full and actually three times above capacity. Conditions are getting worse as officials with the state’s special committee on migration issues say city and state officials are even looking for a second shelter, but no local businesses are willing to rent out their facilities for the migrants. People at the shelter have reported deteriorating conditions including open sewage drains. The Mexican Navy has set up small kitchens and the Red Cross is providing medical care. Migrants say they want the U.S. to speed up the political asylum process, saying it’s taking too long. 804

CLEVELAND — Three suspects were arrested after an officer was shot and killed in Cleveland's Stockyard neighborhood Thursday evening.The unidentified suspects was arrested Friday morning.The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in the 3200 block of West 65th Street near Storer Avenue, police said.The officer, later identified as Det. James Skernivitz, was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center where he died from his injuries, according to the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association.Police said another person was confirmed dead on the scene but was not a suspect.Skernivitz's identity was held pending the notification of his family, as he is married with children, police said.Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association said Skernivitz has been on the force for "a while," was "well-liked" and was a "good man.""This one hurts," Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association president Jeff Follmer said.Skernivitz was a 25-year veteran of the Cleveland Division of Police, authorities said."We definitely need the prayers of the people in the city. COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kanye West, who is currently making an independent bid for the presidency, won't appear on the ballot in Ohio due to some irregularities involving his petition to run for office.According to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, West and his running mate, Michelle Tidball, "failed to meet the requirements necessary to appear on the presidential ballot in Ohio for the Nov. 3, 2020 General Election."Specifically, information and the signature on West's nominating petition and statement of candidacy didn't match up to the documents used to circulate part-petitions, LaRose said.Click here to view West's nominating petition and declaration of candidacy forms.In order to appear on the ballot, West would have had to file a "valid and sufficient joint nominating petition and statement of candidacy that complies with the law and at least 5,000 valid signatures from Ohio voters and a slate of 18 presidential electors," according to LaRose."A signature is the most basic form of authentication and an important, time-honored, security measure to ensure that a candidate aspires to be on the ballot and that a voter is being asked to sign a legitimate petition," LaRose said. "There is no doubt that the West nominating petition and declaration of candidacy failed to meet the necessary threshold for certification."West likely won't appear on the ballots in enough states to even qualify for the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ind. — A Wisconsin man drowned on Sunday when he jumped into a southern Indiana lake in an effort to save two women who fell off a towable tube and were struggling to stay afloat.According to a report from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, an Indiana conservation officer was on boat patrol on Patoka Lake in Crawford County around 2:51 p.m. Sunday when witnesses alerted him to a possible drowning. Multiple 911 calls came in shortly after reporting that a man had disappeared in the water.Conservation officers said two females were aboard the towable tube affixed to a stationary rental boat by a rope when they fell off the tube and struggled to stay afloat.Multiple people from the rental boat jumped in to assist and rescued one of the females. One of the people who jumped in to help, Travis Ray St. Martin, 33, of Racine, Wisc., disappeared under the water.The other female, K'neisha Adams, 25, of Burke, Virginia, was rescued by a group of people from a separate boat. She was taken by medical helicopter to University of Louisville Hospital and later released.Conservation officer public safety divers recovered St. Martin's body around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.The Crawford County Coroner's Office has preliminarily ruled the cause of death as accidental drowning.Conservation officers said alcohol and drugs are not suspected of being contributing factors.The DNR said although there were adequate life jackets on the rental boat, none were in use.This story was originally published by Bob Blake at WRTV. 1545
