DESCANSO, Calif. (KGTV) — A Descanso man has finished carving a Buddha statue into a granite boulder in his backyard. “Buddha is in every tree just looking at you like every rock,” said artist Duncan McFetridge. “It’s connected to our saving our environment — all life is sacred.” Duncan McFetridge says it took six months to carve the 6-foot tall Buddha into the granite. “It occurred to me that this was a perfect time and place to carve a representation of Buddha,” added McFetridge, who was heavily involved in the preservation of the Cleveland National Forest. He estimates he chipped away more than 750 pounds using a combination of hand tools and power tools on the stone carving while working in 4-hour increments every day. “These are incredibly difficult,” said McFetridge pointing to cinnamon roll-sized circles adorning the carving's head, “each one takes about a day.” The 78-year-old says someone recently visited and figured out the Buddha carving faces due east, sticking with an ancient tradition of Buddha statues facing east to represent the moment of the enlightenment. “I didn’t know, I was totally unconscious of this,” said McFetridge, who adds he just picked the rock face because of its accessibility.McFetridge says hundreds have already inquired about visiting the statue to which he says he encourages it. “The Buddha wants to be known,” said McFetridge. 1390

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has clearly indicated he wants special counsel Robert Mueller's probe to conclude as soon as possible, Bloomberg reports, citing a U.S. official.President Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani said in May that Mueller's office was aiming to finish its probe by September. Some elements of the wide-ranging investigation appear be wrapping up, as a handful the defendants who pleaded guilty move on to sentencing. Mueller's office, however, has made no public statements indicating that the investigation is in its final stages despite repeated calls from Trump to wrap up it up as soon as possible.Last week, CNN reported that Trump's legal team was preparing to answer written questions provided by Mueller, according to sources familiar with the matter.Rosenstein is overseeing the investigation, as Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from any investigations involving the Trump presidential campaign -- a move that has brought on intense criticism from the President.Mueller's office and Trump's legal team have been going back and forth for months over terms for the President to be interviewed by the special counsel.CNN has reported that the questions focus on matters related to the investigation of possible collusion between Trump associates and Russians seeking to meddle in the 2016 election, the sources said. According to sources, Trump's lawyers are preparing written responses, in part relying on documents previously provided to the special counsel. 1522

DENVER – A natural gas explosion caused at least one building to partially collapse Tuesday in Denver, injuring nine people. Simon Crittle, a spokesperson for Denver Health Medical Center, said two people were transported to the hospital by ambulance after the explosion and collapse. One of the people suffered traumatic injuries in the explosion. The other person was stable Tuesday afternoon.Crittle said that several other people were being treated at the scene of the explosion and collapse and that first responders were looking for other possible victims.Denver Fire Captain Greg Pixley said the explosion was reported at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and said several buildings were damaged in the area. One person who had been trapped was rescued by firefighters.Pixley said that crews were working to put out an active fire at the scene in addition to working to reduce the chance of other explosions in the area and further collapses. He said there were no reported deaths as of 2:10 p.m.An Xcel Energy spokeswoman on scene said all of the company equipment is intact up to the meters, meaning the explosion was likely caused by a customer. Xcel is working to turn off gas remotely. The spokeswoman said the company has a distribution site at Lipan Street and Santa Fe Drive and staff at that location said they felt the explosion.Eileen Andrews, who owns the nearby Baker Neighborhood Market, said she saw a man run from the wreckage of the explosion who had his clothes blown almost entirely off his body and that the man suffered burns."I mean everything was exposed -- he barely had a couple strings left of his pants. He was completely exposed and said he didn't know what happened," she said. "It was just like the biggest, loudest boom I've ever heard."She said some men who had been working on her business' HVAC system ran over to help the man and another trapped woman.Another neighbor, Edward Scott, said he was on the phone with his insurance company at his nearby home when the explosion happened."[The insurance agent] was on the phone with me going, 'What happened, what happened?' and I said, 'I don't know, I think my house just blew up,'" Scott said.He said he was hit by wood debris from the explosion and that the shockwave from the blast was so intense he thought his own home had exploded. When he realized it was another home across the street, he said he walked over to the scene and saw a person rescued from the rubble."It was two people ... a lady. And then this guy picked her up and firemen carried her out of the house," Scott said. "And then the other one ... and they were boyfriend-girlfriend and they were both bartenders and they were sleeping."Scott said the woman had been looking for her cat, which was missing, but which was later discovered alive at the scene. 2827

Del Mar, California is where the turf meets the surf. It’s also where people can now meet big fines and possible jail time for not covering their faces.“I feel like my freedoms have been taken away and that I should have a choice,” said Kindra, a woman visiting this San Diego County beach town from Gilbert, Arizona.Others seem split on the city’s recent decision to spend ,000 from its COVID-19 relief fund to have sheriff’s deputies enforce mask wearing rules.“Spending money that we don’t have to create another enforcement just feels like a blatant misuse of government funds,” said commercial real estate investor David Thomas.“You have to adopt a cooperative attitude; we’re all in it together,” said Del Mar local Andrea Walters. “Would it kill you not to wear a mask? No!”The city also spent ,000 adding signs reminding people to wear masks.“To people who feel like their rights are being tread upon, I wish they would look at this in a different frame,” said Del Mar mayor Ellie Haviland.Haviland says this extra enforcement is not a scare tactic but rather a way to be as proactive as possible to help get this pandemic under control.“It has been shown in other communities around the world that enforcement is one of the key elements of getting the compliance needed in order to get people wearing masks and social distancing,” she said.Haviland added that anyone not wearing a mask and is less than 6 feet away from someone that’s not considered a household member is violating local health codes which could result in a ,000 fine and up to 90 days in jail.“I don’t think you can ever look for that to happen unless there’s something egregious,” said Del Mar-based lawyer Bing Bush, Jr. “It’s just a matter of public safety.”While Bush Jr. believes most people don’t have to worry about getting fined or going to jail for not wearing a mask, he says there is a lawful hierarchy across the county where cities are required to do at least the bare minimum when it comes to enforcing state and county health requirements.“I think where it gets kind of tough is where again you butt up against individual rights,” he said. “Folks aren’t quite used to having their so-called freedoms taken away for the public good and it’s a challenge.”It's a challenge city leaders say is based on facts and science not politics or individual beliefs.“This is strictly about what are we seeing working in other places and what are the health experts recommending that we do,” Haviland said. This added enforcement is a four-month program that runs through November. City leaders will then look at the results and decide what’s next. 2639

Despite making little impact on the outcome of the presidential election, Kanye West hinted Wednesday that he plans to run again in 2024.The rapper turned politician said Wednesday morning that he intends to run for the presidency again in 2024, tweeting "KANYE 2024."Despite West's status as an A-list celebrity, his presidential campaign never made an impact on the 2020 race. He only appeared on the ballot in about a quarter of states, and according to Associated Press counts, West has not yet been able to garner even 1% of the vote in any of them. 562
