CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) - A brush fire on base at Camp Pendleton was visible above North San Diego County Monday afternoon.Camp Pendleton officials reported the vegetation fire was located on range 409, at the northeast end of the base.The smoke was reported in the Fallbrook area near the base, according to North County Fire. SDG&E's Alert fire camera showed a large plume from the Red Mountain viewpoint."There is no threat to our district at this time," North County Fire tweeted. Camp Pendleton officials confirmed there was no danger to structures.Base officials said on Twitter later Monday night that the forward progress of the fire had been stopped. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Charlotte Hornets have suspended radio play-by-play broadcaster John Focke indefinitely after he used a racial slur on his Twitter account. Focke used the slur while tweeting about the Jazz-Nuggets playoff game. He has since deleted the tweet and apologized, saying it was a typo. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - Each Monday, a group of dedicated seniors gather in their woodshop, on a mission to make the holidays a little brighter for North County kids in need. The woodworking elves of the La Costa Glen senior living community in Carlsbad have spent nearly a year creating 100 handmade toys of all shapes and sizes.The toys have up to 39 pieces, crafted with various types of wood like walnut, cherry, and mahogany. RELATED: 10 special holiday events coming to San DiegoFive woodworkers spent the year making around 4,000 parts for the toys."It's all handmade, and a lot of love and care goes into putting it together," said Tom Woodbury, a member of the toymaking team. Countless hours have gone into the effort. Among the toys are a truck, grasshopper, and mouse. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) -- The woman killed in a Carlsbad jet ski crash in August has been identified. According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner, 39-year-old Tanisha Prince was killed in the crash. Carlsbad Police say the crash happened just before 4 p.m. on August 18 at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon off the 4200 block of Harrison Street. Prince was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries. No other injuries were reported. 638
