Hold off on that funeral dirge for Macy's. The department store isn't dead yet.Macy's topped Wall Street's profit forecasts Tuesday and provided a healthy outlook for this year.The results strongly suggest there is still room for traditional stores in the mall in a world increasingly dominated by the likes of Amazon and Walmart.Macy's chairman and CEO Jeff Gennette said the company was "encouraged" by improvement at the company's brick-and-mortar stores and continued growth in online sales.Gennette said digital revenue posted a double-digit percentage increase for the 34th quarter in a row, a run of more than eight years.And the company is still investing heavily in its Bluemercury chain of specialty beauty stores and the discount outlet Backstage. Macy's said it opened 36 Bluemercury stores and 30 Backstage stores last year, even as it closed 16 Macy's stores.Gennette added during a conference call with analysts that Macy's plans to open 100 more Backstage locations this year, including in malls.Macy's is also selling real estate to shore up its balance sheet. The company said it raised 1 million last year and .3 billion over the past three years by getting rid of some stores, warehouses and parking garages.Macy's is also working with real estate company Brookfield Asset Management on other transactions.Macy's said Tuesday it is selling several floors in its State Street store in Chicago to a real estate fund backed by Brookfield for million. But one analyst said Macy's needs to do more before its turnaround qualifies as a true Miracle on 34th Street."There is a long tail of shops that look dated, are in sub-optimal locations, and where the customer experience is poor. Macy's must remedy this if it is to transform the business," Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail, said in a report.Nonetheless, the real estate transactions and improved sales outlook are two reasons Wall Street has fallen in love with Macy's again.The stock surged nearly 12% in early trading before pulling back a bit. Macy's has soared more than 45% in the past six months.Department store chains Kohl's, Nordstrom and JCPenney — which will all report results later this week — rallied as well Tuesday. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A Grand Rapids teen is making sure your morning cup of coffee stays brewing for years to come with the launch of her new coffee line, Joven Coffee."Joven means 'young' in Spanish, so that is why we chose it because we're supporting young farmers," said Frankie Volekma, founder of Joven Coffee.At 14, Frankie is the youngest coffee Q grader in the world and is launching the coffee line to support the next generation of coffee farmers."We're just trying to make it a viable career option for a lot of these young farmers because a lot of times it's a low paying career to be in coffee farming," she said.In coffee producing countries like Columbia and regions of Africa, farmers are primarily 57 years old or older.Frankie's concern is those farmers will eventually retire, and there won't be enough young farmers to take their place."I think it's an important issue, and you're going to hear more about it over time," said Frankie's dad, Tim Volekma, owner of Sparrow Coffee and Schuil Coffee. GLENDALE, Wisconsin -- A woman filed a civil lawsuit against four members of the Glendale Police Department. The suit filed in federal court is demanding million.She claims the investigation into a dog attack that took place in March 2017 was not handled properly. The suit claims the woman was attacked by a 3-year-old Presa Canario and suffered injuries to her head, back and wrist that required more than 140 medical treatments, including 11 staples in her scalp, puncture wounds on her back and an injured wrist, which needed three surgeries to fix.A police report from the incident claims that her hand was "completely covered in blood and her hair appeared to be blood soaked."The woman also claimed the attack resulted in emotional trauma.The dog qas temporarily quarantined for 10 days. The woman also claims that police were not aware of procedure for dog attacks.The woman no charges were filed in the incident, and when she called repeatedly for an update in the investigation, a sergeant told her that "f you don't like the way we handle this get yourself an attorney and sue us."Both the Glendale police chief and the city's attorney declined to comment, citing pending litigation.Glendale City Attorney John Fuchs issued the following statement."She went into the dog's yard and approached the dog.
