DENVER -- Weld County prosecutors on Monday formally charged 33-year-old Chris Watts with nine felony counts, including first-degree murder, in regards to the deaths of his pregnant wife, Shanann Watts, and their two young daughters last week in Frederick, Colo.Watts faces three counts of first-degree murder after deliberation, two counts of first-degree murder – victim under 12/position of trust, one count of first-degree unlawful termination of a pregnancy, and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body, according to Colorado court records and documents filed Monday afternoon.Read the full arrest affidavit by clicking here.The affidavit says that Chris Watts was having an affair that he had previously denied to police, and that he claimed that Shanann had tried to strangle their daughters after he told her he wanted to separate.Watts is next due in court Tuesday morning to learn the formal charges he faces. 950

DEL MAR (KGTV) — For the first time, researchers set up receivers along San Diego coast with the ability to record when sharks are near. California State University Long Beach spent Wednesday working with Del Mar lifeguards as they dropped three receivers along the coast and tried tagging sharks nearby. Unfortunately, no sharks were tagged.Chris Lowe, with Shark Lab, tells 10News, “we just got money from the state to expand it throughout all of California.” They have receivers from Avila to the Mexico border but none located between Oceanside and La Jolla."This is a big gap for us,” Lowe says.Each receiver collects data from any tagged shark within 500 yards of the device. The receiver logs the time, date and is able to identify the exact shark based on the scanned tag. For a decade, CSU Long Beach has been studying the patterns of sharks and working to collect enough data to eventually predict where sharks will be at certain times of the year. 967

David Blaine, known for extreme stunts and illusions, has reached new heights. Literally.Blaine grabbed onto a bunch of helium balloons this week and floated up into the air above the Arizona desert. The stunt, called “Ascension,” was live streamed on YouTube Wednesday.He begins the video talking to his daughter among giant helium balloons in an airport hangar.“This is what I’ve been telling you about, that I’ve been dreaming about since I was your age,” Blaine tells her. He later says he wanted to do a stunt that “inspires” his daughter, and doesn’t scare her like past stunts may have.He was strapped to about 50 balloons with the goal of reaching about 18,000 feet into the air. The hour-long flight reached a height of 24,900 feet. At about two hours 45 minutes into the video, Blaine releases the balloons and begins skydiving toward earth, opening his parachute a few minutes later.“Wow! That was awesome, wow!” Blaine exclaims when he lands. The video shows his daughter get on the headset and talk to Blaine after he landed.“You did it! DENVER (AP) — Chipotle is moving its headquarters from its hometown of Denver to southern California.The burrito chain announced Wednesday that work done in its Denver and New York offices will be either moved to its new headquarters in Newport Beach, California or taken over by its existing office in Columbus, Ohio over the next six months. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- Lifeguards in Del Mar urged caution Tuesday evening after several young white sharks were spotted off the coast. According to the city, lifeguards spotted a juvenile shark Monday off 29th Street and again Tuesday off 15th Street. Specific times weren't mentioned by the city in a news release. The city says neither shark approached the shore or showed aggressive behavior. “Shark experts told lifeguards there is no cause for concern,” the city said. City officials say advisory signs posted Tuesday will remain in place for 24 hours. “Coastal waters in Southern California are a known nursery habitat for white sharks, according the Shark Lab, which studies the physiological and behavioral ecology of marine animals and the effect of human activity on the ocean,” the city added. 818
