The Environmental Protection Agency has handed documents to Congress that show new travel expenses from agency administrator Scott Pruitt, totaling some ,000 in hotel stays and air travel, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.The documents, which were requested by House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy and obtained by the Post, reportedly show that Pruitt traveled on government business dozens of time on first-class and domestic flights from August 2017 through February 2018.The reported expenses include a four-day, ,631 trip to Morocco in December, a series of first-class flights following Hurriciane Harvey totaling ,330, and a two-day domestic trip for media interviews and a visit to Florida that amounted to ,767. Pruitt's travel expenses listed in the records reportedly do not include the costs of his security team or aides who travel with him.The EPA justified the travel spending as necessary to ensure Pruitt's security."EPA's Protective Service Detail identified specific ongoing threats associated with Administrator Pruitt's travel and shifted his class based on certain security protocols that require him to be near the front of the plane," said Jahan Wilcox, a spokesperson for the agency.Previously, CNN reported that from June through August 2017, the EPA justified several expensive charter flights for Pruitt -- including a ,000 bill for a business trip around his home state.In late August, the EPA inspector general announced it would investigate Pruitt's travel practices. Since beginning the probe, the IG has twice expanded its scope, which now encompasses all of Pruitt's 2017 taxpayer-funded travel.According to an earlier Post analysis of other EPA records, Pruitt's travel choices distinguish him from his predecessors in that he brings a larger group of aides with him on trips, he usually flies first or business class on international and domestic trips, and he often flies Delta Airlines even though the government has contracts with certain airlines on specific routes.In response to the travel probes, earlier this month Pruitt said he'll be seeking alternative accommodations -- including potentially flying in coach class -- on his "very next flight."Other Trump administration Cabinet secretaries have attracted scrutiny of their travel spending, including Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and former Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, who resigned after using private planes for multiple government business trips.Pruitt has also been under scrutiny for the costs the agency has accrued changing EPA headquarters, including a ,000 secure phone booth for Pruitt's calls.Other Cabinet members' spending for office renovations has been criticized recently. The City of San Diego was awarded a million state grant that will help save food, save the planet, and save people.  The city will use a majority of the grant to convert its composting system at the Miramar Landfill into a closed system.  A news release from the city said that will reduce air emissions and continue to divert tons of food waste from the landfill.The City of San Diego currently keeps more than 100,000 tons of food waste out of the landfill by composting or making sure it’s diverted to food rescue non-profits before it’s thrown away.“It’s getting tossed because people don’t find the need for it or it’s got a slight cosmetic defect,” said Aviva Paley of Kitchens for Good, a food rescue that feeds hundreds of people a day by using food that could have been thrown away.“You can still make really good food with stuff that you just have to clean it up a little bit,” said Kitchens for Good Chef Trainer Theron Fisher.“It is so heartbreaking to see how much food goes to waste in this country,” said Paley.A portion of the state grant will allow Kitchens for Good to expand its operation.  It fed 35,000 people in 2016.  It would like to feed more than 50,000 by 2018.It would keep more food out of the landfill and feed more people who need meals.  Paley said one in six San Diegans go hungry every day.Another benefit for the Kitchens for Good program:  The cooks who prepare the meals are going through a 12-week training program to prepare them for culinary careers.  Paley said most of the participants have overcome obstacles from crime and drugs to mental disabilities.  The program opens them to a career they could otherwise never reach. 1718

The FBI is warning financial institutions that their ATMs could be targeted in a hacking attempt.The threat was reported Sunday by Krebs On Security, a popular cybersecurity blog run by the journalist Brian Krebs.Krebs reported that the scheme is known as an "ATM cash-out," which means the attackers can hack a bank or payment card processor and use stolen information to withdraw large sums of money at ATMs worldwide. His report cited a confidential alert the FBI shared with banks last Friday.The FBI did not comment specifically on this potential attack. In a statement to CNN, a spokeswoman said that "in furtherance of public-private partnerships, the FBI routinely advises private industry of various cyber threat indicators observed during the course of our investigations.""This data is provided in order to help systems administrators guard against the actions of persistent cyber criminals," the spokeswoman said.CNN reached out to two major banks, Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase, both of which declined to comment.Krebs has reported on similar "unlimited operations" before, including a scheme in which more than million was stolen from a Virginia bank in 2016 and 2017.The alert, called a private industry notification, was sent to a narrow group of cybersecurity professionals and system administrators at financial firms that had assets at risk, according to a federal law enforcement official.Though the FBI at times makes PSAs for significant cybersecurity threats, like when they told the public in May to reboot certain internet routers after a malware attack, no wider notification was made about the ATM scheme. 1659
