The U.S. has now seen two straight weeks in which at least 100,000 people are confirmed to have contracted COVID-19 each day.On Monday, the U.S. reported 166,000 new cases of the virus, marking the 14th consecutive day with 100,000 or more new cases of the virus, according to a database kept by Johns Hopkins University. The last day new cases totaled less than 100,000 was on Nov. 2. Since then, about 1.9 million Americans have contracted the virus, the rolling 7-day average of hospitalizations across the country has increased from 50,000 to 65,000 and daily deaths on a rolling 7-day average have ticked up from 824 a day to 1,114 a day. That 14-day time span has also seen seven days in which record numbers of new cases were reported. The current record was set on Friday when 177,000 people in the U.S. were confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.The current spike in caseloads has led hospitals across the country to become inundated with patients, overwhelming resources. The COVID Tracking Project reports that most of those hospitalizations are occurring in the Midwest, where rural hospitals in places like Iowa and South Dakota are running short on bed space. The current standard was predicted in June by Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's highest-ranking infectious disease expert. During a Senate hearing, Fauci stunned lawmakers by predicting that the U.S. could reach a point where 100,000 people were being infected each day if "disturbing trends" continued.Fauci's comments in June came during a summer spike in cases which saw infection rates top out at about 77,000 new cases each day.The current spike in cases comes as drugmakers like Pfizer and Moderna have reported encouraging results in vaccine trial results. While both vaccine candidates are on track for Emergency Use Authorization by the end of 2020, the drug likely won't be widely available to the general public for several months — Fauci has predicted that a vaccine will be widely available in the U.S. by April. 2002

The United States of America will NOT be cutting funding to @starsandstripes magazine under my watch. It will continue to be a wonderful source of information to our Great Military!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 4, 2020 243

The United States says they are delivering critical supplies to Lebanon after the deadly port explosion on Tuesday. The United States Air Force said in a press release that planes at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar were getting supplies out to help the Lebanon people after more than 100 people were killed in a deadly blast in Beirut.Officials said members of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Mobility Command’s 8th Expeditionary Air Mobility Squadron and 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron on Al Udeid Air Base, and the Area Support Group-Qatar from Camp As Sayliyah helped in the delivery of the aid.“Support of this magnitude at such speed wouldn’t be possible without the joint effort of all members of Al Udeid Air Base, our U.S. Army counterparts at Camp As Sayliyah and our gracious Qatari partners,” said Brig. Gen. Daniel Tulley, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing commander in the statement. “In the wake of tragedy, it truly takes a combined effort to make the mission happen. We do this every day in Qatar, and that’s exactly what we are doing in support of the Lebanese Armed Forces.”Officials said 11 pallets, which contained more than 28,800 military field rations, 11,520 bottles of water, and two pallets of medical supplies were being delivered.According to the Associated Press, the blast killed at least 135 people and injured more than 5,000. 1371

The RV industry has seen a significant increase in rentals and sales over the summer. One company, RVshare, reported more than a 1,000% increase in rentals. Now, the trend seems to be moving beyond just a summer vacation alternative. Some are turning to it as a new way to home-school and work during this pandemic. Some families are turning these RVs into their primary or secondary homes."I think it is difficult for families to be cooped up," said Julie Partridge.Partridge was already considering making the switch to RV life before the pandemic, but after five months of social distancing and quarantining in her home, she decided to finally do it.She sold the family home and hit the road to live, home-school her kids and work from an RV."Obviously our camper is much smaller than our house,” said Partridge. “Substantially smaller, but you have this vast open world available to you. You feel less cooped up in this camper than you do in this 3,000 square foot house."She also feels the move to full-time RV life this fall will also give her kids a unique educational opportunity."We really want to see the national parks,” said Partridge. “I want my kids to do the park ranger program. I want to use that as their science and social studies curriculum from the road. So, we are really excited about those parts."The Partridge family is just one of many either committing to or newly considering RV life in the fall, according to a survey done by the RV rental company RVshare."We have, from our survey, seen that over 30% of people are considering homeschooling from the road and over 40% of people are considering working from the road and that is something that is new to the industry," RVshare Jon Gray."You have school not opening on time, you have a lot of employers turning to work from anywhere models for the extended future and those things have made it to where RVs are appealing deep into the fall," said Gray. The pandemic has changed so much in our lives. Many people are looking to get away from the uncertainty and continued concern with it. This seems to be one way for some to do that."It is saving us money, it is teaching them lessons, it has really been kind of refreshing," said Partridge. 2224
