Australia is ordering automakers to recall more than two million vehicles fitted with potentially deadly airbags.The Australian government said Wednesday that the cars contain airbags made by Takata, the Japanese company at the heart of a scandal that has led to tens of millions of vehicle recalls around the world in recent years.Takata airbags have been linked to at least 23 deaths globally, including one in Australia, according to a statement by the Australian Treasury. But the government said those steps haven't been enough to deal with the danger, leaving around 2.3 million vehicles with the defective airbags still on the country's roads."The voluntary recall process has not been effective in some cases, and some manufacturers have not taken satisfactory action to address the serious safety risk which arises after the airbags are more than six years old," said Michael Sukkar, an assistant Australian Treasury minister.The new compulsory recall includes models made by major carmakers such as Ford, Mercedes Benz, Tesla and Volkswagen.The total number of affected cars in Australia is 4 million, or nearly one in five passenger vehicles on the country's roads. At least seven people have been killed and six attackers "neutralized" Friday in Burkina Faso after attacks on the national army headquarters and the French Embassy, a government minister said.It's not yet clear who was behind the violence in the West African nation's capital, Ouagadougou.France's special envoy to Africa's Sahel region, Jean-Marc Chataigner, urged people to avoid the city center in a tweet referring to a "terrorist attack."Rémi Dandjinou, Burkina Faso's minister of communication, told CNN that an explosive device was used in the attack at the General Staff of the Armed Forces. He got a research grant and came up with it about 15 years ago.Williams, who is also a pharmacy professor at the University of Texas in Austin, said they were working on the technology and its multiple uses when the pandemic hit. And all of a sudden, they got a lot of attention.“We have published over 70 papers on the technology and using it for different products- it’s quite a mature process," Williams said. "We developed it because with other vaccines, the majority of the vaccine cost is in wastage because of this cold chain issue, so we published several key papers where we showed our thin-film freezing technology would protect vaccines - and you wouldn’t need cold chain storage.”Glenn Mattes, President, and CEO of TFF Pharmaceuticals added that the powders can be converted to topical preparations and they are currently working with the US Army to take some of the preparations and would then administer them directly through the eye.TFF is launching thin-film freezing into development through the FDA process. “I use the term ubiquitous because it is and disruptive because it is,” Mattes said. At least five inmates at the Sumner County Jail in Gallatin, Tennessee suffered overdoses after ingesting heroin possibly cut with fentanyl.The drugs were somehow smuggled into the jail. The five inmates were hospitalized, according to reports on Monday.Also, nursing staff at the jail complained of exposure symptoms and needed treatment. Parts of the jail were being cleaned and decontaminated.Reports stated an inmate was brought into the jail Sunday for a violation of community corrections. Monday morning, she was placed in her cell, and around 6 a.m. other inmates began to show signs of respiratory distress.Authorities said it's believed those who were taken to the hospital voluntarily shared whatever substance was brought into the jail.Hospital staff told officials none of the inmates were at risk of death.
