SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Marine is setting out to accomplish something few have, climbing the continent's highest peaks and running a marathon on each one.Major Patrick Holcomb is calling it the 7&7 Challenge.“It’s not really official because up until this point only two people have done it," said Holcomb, who's been in the Marine Corps for 18 years.Holcomb will rely on his rigorous training and gear as he completes the mission.He's already run five marathons on five continents and has climbed three peaks.“Every country you go to you get to experience people and culture, there are a lot of differences around the world," said Holcomb. "What’s been shocking for me is realizing, how much at the end of the day, people are all the same."He plans to use his personal mission for good, teaming up with a nonprofit that helps veterans suffering from PTSD or traumatic brain injuries.Holcomb plans to start fundraising during the final leg of the challenge, Mount Everest in 2022.He's currently based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. 1057

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Adam Shacknai testified Monday in the wrongful death civil lawsuit filed by the family of Rebecca Zahau, whose body was found hanging at the Spreckels Mansion in Coronado.The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office ruled Zahau’s death was a suicide. Zahau’s family believes she was murdered at the home on 1043 Ocean Blvd.Adam Shacknai, the brother of Zahau’s boyfriend Jonah, told investigators he removed Zahau’s body from the balcony about 6:45 a.m. the morning of July 13, 2011.In testimony, Shacknai said he called 911.Investigators found her body on the ground, her hands and feet bound with red rope. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A war veteran who used to deliver meals to seniors in the North County is now receiving them himself.City councilman Mark Kersey honored Jim Munday on Wednesday morning for his contributions. This week, the long-time Rancho Bernardo resident will celebrate a birthday most of us can only hope to reach—102 years old.Councilman Kersey brought him a blanket, flowers, some food, and a special certificate in honor of his birthday and thanking him for all of his contributions to the Meals on Wheels of San Diego County, but it's even more meaningful because Jim was once a Meals on Wheels volunteer himself.“He started delivering when he was 90 and now he's 102, so he's a pretty special guy,” Kersey said. At 102, Munday is quiet, modest, and hard of hearing but still very much aware of the world around him.“A good day for a birthday party,” he said as he sat outside. The World War II vet fought in the Battle of the Bulge, receiving several medals including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.His own artwork lines his living room. He started painting when was 90 and says he learned from watching Bob Ross on PBS.In 2003, Munday’s wife, Mildred, passed away, but their great-grandson, Hudson, and daughter Millie, were both on hand for this major milestone.“He's a very honest, generous person, and I'm very proud of him,” Millie said. Now his community is doing the same for him.“To be able to give back to someone who's given so much is something that makes San Diego and Rancho Bernardo a special place,” Kersey said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A stretch of Harbor Drive near San Diego International Airport was shut down after a deadly crash Wednesday morning.The single-vehicle crash was reported just after 11 a.m. on northbound Harbor Drive, about a mile from the airport’s Terminal 1.ABC 10News learned a blue car traveling at a high rate of speed on the southbound side struck an object, lost control and then crossed the median onto the northbound lanes before coming to rest.The driver was declared dead at the scene.Due to the wreck, authorities were forced to close off at least one lane on northbound Harbor Drive, creating a lengthy backup for motorists heading towards the airport. 676

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A vandal left a trail of flattened car tires and angry drivers across a mile-long stretch of Pacific Beach on Monday."Frustrated is the best word I can use," said Jennifer Whetstone. Whetstone discovered a flat tire on her Jeep Wranger near her home on Felspar Street just after noon. Replacing the slashed tire will cost her more 0.Police actually contacted her and her husband on the phone to let them know about the slashing, because officers were already in the area. According to Whetstone, police told her the same vandal had just slashed the tires of six vehicles in a Bank of America parking lot.It all happened in broad daylight, off busy streets. The description of the vandal was provided by a witness to police."He saw the whole thing, heard the pop and then saw a guy on a mountain bike - tall, skinny and wearing a hat - pedal off," said Whetstone.The witness saw the man bike down the street in a hurry.
