Do long lines get you down? Walmart has a plan to help eliminate the stress shoppers get when waiting in long lines. The company’s new system is called “Check Out with Me.” First, a Walmart associate scans your items with their special, mobile device. Then, they’ll swipe your credit card right there, before handing you the receipt. The process eliminates having to wait in line for a cashier.  Marketing professor Darrin Duber-Smith at MSU Denver says consumers want options, and the main option they want is convenience. He says two companies in constant competition are Walmart and Amazon.Amazon recently announced their plans to open 3,000 brick and mortar stores-- that will be cashierless—by 2021.As for Walmart’s new checkout program, the company plans to position workers in the busiest sections of the store. The program will begin in Walmart Superstores across the U.S. Thursday.  912

Dozens of common breakfast cereals and snack bars have trace amounts of a controversial herbicide found in the weed killer Roundup, according to a report released today by an environmental advocacy group. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that 26 of the 28 products it tested had levels of Roundup's main ingredient, glyphosate, that were "higher than what EWG scientists consider protective of children's health." An earlier report found similar results in over thirty oat-based foods.List: The name-brand breakfast cereals and snack bars that contain weed killer chemicalManufacturers say their products are safe, but the EWG report argues that the vast majority of foods tested -- such as Honey Nut Cheerios and Quaker Simply Granola Oats -- have glyphosate levels that might pose a cancer risk with long-term consumption.None of the foods violated EPA limits on the herbicide, but the EWG uses a far more conservative health benchmark. California's proposed glyphosate limit, which would be the most restrictive in the country, still allows for glyphosate levels that are over a hundred times higher than the EWG's threshold. The environmental group says its lower threshold includes an added buffer for children, as "exposure during early life can have more significant effects on development later in life," according to Dr. Alexis Temkin, the lead scientist on EWG report. But manufacturers dispute that threshold. Quaker said in a statement that the "EWG report artificially creates a 'safe level' for glyphosate that is detached from those that have been established by responsible regulatory bodies in an effort to grab headlines." 1656

During an interview with Stephen Colbert, former President Barack Obama expressed regret about not giving Dolly Parton a President Medal of Freedom. The “Late Show” host asked Obama why Parton doesn’t have a Medal of Freedom during a segment called “Questions we're pretty sure Barack Obama has never been asked before.”“That’s a mistake. I’m shocked,” Obama answered.Colbert jokingly asked if Obama realized that not giving the country icon the medal was the mistake that he made during his eight years in office.“Actually, that was a screwup. I’m surprised,” said the ex-president.Obama said he mistakenly assumed Parton already had one, but said he would reach out to President-elect Joe Biden to make things right.“She deserves one. I’ll call Biden,” said Obama.Along with a successful singing and acting career, Parton founded an reading program for kids called "Imagination Library" and recently, people have applauded the star for donating million for the development of a COVID-19 vaccine.During his time in the nation’s highest office, Obama presented the Medal of Freedom to many people. Some notable recipients include Ellen DeGeneres, Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, Michael Jordan, Diana Ross, James Taylor and Stevie Wonder.Obama was on the CBS talk show to promote his new memoir, “A Promised Land,” in which he details his journey to the White House and what his first term was like. 1404

Dr. Anthony Fauci again broke with President Donald Trump on several key aspects to the administration's response to the coronavirus pandemic during a conversation at Georgetown University on Tuesday.Notably, Fauci said that while schools' goal should be to reopen in the fall, the decision should be left up to local districts in areas where the virus is surging."We should try as best as possible to keep kids in school," Fauci said. "...however, that's going to vary depending on where you are in the country."Fauci said in areas where the virus isn't prevalent; schools should feel comfortable reopening to students. But in areas where cases are spiking — Fauci identified Arizona, California, Florida and Texas as states where the pandemic is the worst — the decision should be left to local officials. He added that districts should "make a decision based on the judgment that the safety of the children and safety of the teachers is paramount."President Donald Trump has called for all schools to reopen in the fall, and threaten to withhold federal funding in districts that choose not to open to students. In addition, Fauci also broke with Trump on testing. While Trump has said as recently as Saturday that spiking case numbers in America are the result of a high volume of tests, Fauci pointed out that other troubling specifics are on the rise."There's no doubt it's both (the number of tests and the uncontrollable spread of the virus that are causing case numbers to rise)," Fauci said.He added that the percentage of positive tests to the total number of tests taken is on the rise in many parts of the country. He also pointed out the hospitalizations are also up throughout the country and added that deaths may rise in the coming days. However, Fauci added that he does not believe the average amount of deaths will rise to the level of where they were in the spring, adding that the average age of a COVID-19 patient is skewing younger than it was earlier in the pandemic. Finally, Fauci was asked who Americans should trust during the pandemic."Trust respected medical authorities...who have a track record of telling the truth," Fauci said. He included himself among the group of "respected medical authorities."The discussion was hosted both by Georgetown's Institute of Politics and Public Service and the Global Health Initiative.Fauci's comments come as the White House continues to sideline him from official briefings with the Coronavirus Task Force, of which he is a member. It also comes days after reports emerged that White House officials were "concerned" about Fauci's recommendations during the pandemic, including advice from earlier this year in which he urged Americans not to wear masks.Initially, Fauci did recommend that Americans avoid wearing masks in an effort to keep from emptying an already-depleted stockpile of personal protective equipment. He has since made an about-face and has urged all Americans to wear masks. He's also admitted that the mixed messaging has been detrimental in slowing the spread of the virus."We have to admit it, that that mixed message in the beginning, even though it was well-meant to allow masks to be available for health workers, that was detrimental in getting the message across," Fauci told NPR earlier this month. "No doubt about it."Meanwhile, other White House officials — like Surgeon General Jerome Adams — also initially recommended against the use of masks. President Donald Trump has also spread disinformation about the virus, and retweeted claims that "everyone is lying" about the disease — including the CDC.On Monday, Trump claimed that despite Fauci's lack of public appearances, the two still have a "good" relationship. 3723
