BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan met Chairman of the Presidential Committee for the G20 Summit of the Republic of Korea (ROK) II SaKong Tuesday in Beijing. They exchanged views on preparations for the fifth G20 Summit in Seoul next month and agreed to continue to enhance communication and cooperation so as to achieve positive results at the summit.The fifth G20 Summit, an international forum on economic cooperation among the world's 20 major economies, will be held on Nov. 11 and 12. Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan (R) meets with Chairman of the Presidential Committee for the G20 Summit of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Il SaKong in Beijing, capital of China, Oct. 26, 2010.Previous G20 summits were held in Washington, London, Pittsburgh and Toronto.The G20 members -- Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the ROK, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United States and the European Union -- account for 90 percent of global output, 80 percent of global trade and two-thirds of the world's population.

BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- China and Ukraine have agreed to boost economic and parliamentary cooperation after their leaders met in Beijing.Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao met with visiting Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych Friday."The pressing task is to identify major projects for cooperation and give full play to business, research and financial institutes," said Wen.Wu Bangguo (R), chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, meets with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich (L) in Beijing, capital of China, Sept. 3, 2010."By doing so, we will make headway in economic and technological cooperation and promote economic recovery and sustainable growth," he said.Yanukovych said his country hopes to fully utilize the cooperation committee at the vice-premier level they agreed upon to establish advanced cooperation in various fields.During his meeting with Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), Yanukovych discussed parliamentary exchange between the two countries."The documents signed between the two countries, including the joint statement, show the political willingness to boost parliamentary exchange," Yanukovych said.China hopes to enhance communication between parliamentary leaders and committees in legislature, supervision, trade and culture, Wu said.Yanukovych praised China's efforts maintaining reform, development and stability, saying his country looks forward to further discussions with China on governance.Yanukovych arrived in Beijing Thursday for a four-day state visit and has so far witnessed the signing of a joint statement to upgrade friendly cooperative relations in a comprehensive way.According to an agreement signed by the two sides, Chinese companies will undertake the construction of a 950-million-U.S.-dollar city rail line in Kiev, the capital city of Ukraine.Yanukovych will fly to Shanghai Saturday to attend the 2010 World Expo.

He will continue to visit Iceland, the Netherlands and Switzerland after his tour in Sweden.

  

BEIJING, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has pledged China would work with the international community to promote the sustainable growth of the oceans.Li made the remarks Friday when meeting with representatives to the 33rd Pacem in Maribus (Latin for Peace in the Oceans) Conference, which was held in Beijing Friday and Saturday.Li said China would attach great importance to conservation on the marine ecosystems in the process of exploiting marine resources, and actively develop the green marine economy.China would also improve the oceans' capability of preventing and reducing disasters, and comprehensively take part in international marine affairs, he noted.Patricia O'Brien, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, Awni Behnam, president of International Ocean Institute, Wendy Watson-Wright, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, and other marine scientists attended Friday's meeting with Vice Premier Li.They said that the international community should work together to cope with climate change and promote a sustainable development.Entitled "Oceans, Climate Change and Sustainable Development: Challenges to Oceans and Coastal Cities," the PIM conference has drawn 266 representatives from 30 countries and 12 international organizations.

  

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese man convicted of murdering 11 people including three police officers over five years were executed Tuesday in Foshan City, south China's Guangdong Province, a local court said.Listed as one of the top wanted suspects, Cheng Ruilong, 37, was arrested in 2005 and was sentenced to death for murder, robbery and rape by Foshan Municipal Intermediate People's Court in February 2010. He was found to have murdered 11 people in a string of violence between May 1996 and January 2005.Cheng, a Guangdong native, was originally convicted of murdering 13 but the court dropped the number of victims in July's hearing of Cheng's appeal as bodies of a woman and her daughter allegedly killed by Cheng were never found.He lost the appeal. His execution had been approved by the Supreme People's Court, officials with Foshan intermediate court said.
