SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starbucks customers are noticing a difference since employees were notified Friday of a revised customer policy, acknowledging "any person who enters our spaces, including patios, cafes and restrooms, regardless of whether they make a purchase, is considered a customer."This comes a month after two men were arrested in a?Philadelphia store, sparking national outrage."They're trying to make sure they fix the problem and everything and keep everything straight because they're not trying to be racist, I think," Customer Maurice Howard said.Every customer who spoke with 10News Sunday said they were happy to hear about the revised policy, hoping what happened in Philadelphia will never recur.Customer Francisco Ruiz said the coffee shops provide a service for the community, a notion echoed by the company's vision to create a "third place between work and home."It's no secret students see Starbucks as a study sanctuary. Others, like Yvonne Pardo, conduct business at some of the chains out of convenience."I'm a hiring manager for a local business and I do my interviews at Starbucks," Pardo said.When she learned of the arrest in Philadelphia, she still came in to conduct interviews, but didn't buy anything to see what would happen."Obviously I was impressed at the fact that I wasn't asked to leave, and I was there for four hours one time... Knowing that they changed their policy, I'll probably be more likely to be a patron again," she said.The new policy, meant to be more inclusive, could be abused."I was at Starbucks yesterday and there was a loiterer and I thought about that and I was like, now they probably can't ask this person to leave, and he was sleeping," Pardo said the person was homeless."You got a lot of people who want to kick it and chill and stuff like that so it'll probably be overcrowded, a little bit bad for business," Howard said.The new policy does address disruptive behavior instructing employees to call 9-1-1 and follow procedures to bar a customer from the chain if necessary.The complete revised Starbucks policy is online. 2168

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego traffic is costing local commuters thousands per year, according to a new report. The Urban Mobility Report compiled by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute takes a look at major cities around the U.S. and just how much time people waste every year stuck in traffic.According to the report, San Diegans spend an average of 64 hours a year stuck in traffic. All that waiting really adds up. The report says those same commuters spend ,440 in congestion cost a year. To come up with those numbers, the report looked at the value of the time wasted, estimated at .29 per hour for the average commuter and .94 per hour of truck time. The report was also compiled using average fuel cost – which is nearly a dollar more per gallon in the state of California. Los Angeles topped the list for most time wasted in traffic at 119 hours per year followed by San Francisco at 103 hours and Washington D.C. at 102 hours. 957

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students at Gompers Preparatory Academy were evacuated following a threat the school said it received Monday. San Diego Police say they received a call around 3:50 p.m. after someone reportedly left a voicemail on an administrative line at the school, making a vague bomb threat. A staff member at the school pulled a fire alarm, initiating the evacuation. "GPA received a telephonic threat after school today and the campus has been evacuated," the school said in an Instagram post. According to authorities, the students were evacuated to a nearby park. Roughly 80 students were still on campus along with 30 to 35 staff members. Police arrived and used a K9 to comb through the school, but found no trace of a bomb. An investigation is underway to determine who left the voicemail. Today was the first day students returned to class at the academy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released Monday the name of a man who was shot and killed in Paradise Hills.911 dispatchers got a call about a shooting in the 2400 block of Calle Gaviota Friday about 10:30 p.m., police said.Officers went to the location and found Dustin Bridwell, 37, suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Six robbery suspects were arrested after reportedly assaulting a 14-year-old over a cell phone and leading police on a pursuit late Friday.A 14-year-old boy was walking in the 4400 block of Newport Avenue in Point Loma Heights when a Toyota Rav4 pulled alongside him just before 9:30 p.m., according to San Diego Police.Three suspects, one of whom was armed, got out and demanded the victim's cell phone at gunpoint, police said, before the armed suspect hit the boy over the head with the gun. The suspects then fled the area with the boy's cell phone.Police located the Toyota and tried to pull the vehicle over, prompting the suspects to lead police on a pursuit into the Lincoln Park area. Four juvenile and two adult suspects jumped out of the vehicle at Willie James Jones Ave. and tried to run but were all taken into custody after short foot pursuits, police said. 899
