SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego City leaders are deciding where to spend money in the next fiscal year. Wednesday’s meeting was the first step in the budget for the year. 10News spoke with Barbara Bry just before the meeting. “All nine of us have submitted our budget priorities. What’s interesting is there’s a lot of consensus among all of us as to how much the city should be allocating its funding," Bry said.The latest 10News-Union-Tribune polls shows the top issue as homelessness. It’s one of the issues Bry says will receive major support in next yea’s budget. Wednesday, the budget committee reviewed and adopted a set of funding priorities for what will be a priority for funding in the next fiscal year. The committee’s list is alphabetical at this point, so the issues aren’t ranked by importance. The list does, however, reflect what our poll uncovered: climate action, homelessness, parks and recreation facilities, public safety and sidewalk and street repairs are all important issues. As for our poll, homelessness and affordable housing came out on top at 21 and 20 percent respectively. Close behind is road repairs and further down the line, climate change, the Convention Center and mass transit. 10News asked Bry how the process will proceed. “The council will then discuss the priorities as a whole, then Mayor in April, then budget hearings in May.” 1380
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego police are investigating reports of a suspicious package near a downtown courthouse Tuesday.A package was discovered outside the courthouse at the corner of Union and W. B Streets just before 12 p.m., according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. Out of an abundance of caution, the area was secured and bomb arson investigators were called.Court proceedings were delayed for a short period of time.Upon further investigation, authorities found that the package contained an empty metal security box. No explosive or hazardous materials were found inside. 582

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County Congressman Duncan Hunter spoke Tuesday morning to a group of women who support him despite accusations that he and his wife misused campaign funds.“Women Volunteers in Politics” gathered for the speech at the Bali Hai restaurant on Shelter Island. The event was booked months before Rep. Hunter’s indictment.Hunter spoke to 10News before the event.“Leave my wife out of it, leave my family out of it. It’s me they’re after anyway. They’re not after my wife; they want to take me down, that’s what they’re up to. So let’s get this in the arena and have this settled,” said Hunter.Tuesday's statement was a change from Hunter's message the morning after the indictment was announced. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego and Mountain View community leaders honored the local work of a long-time resident Saturday with an honorary street.Theresa Mae "Mama T" Saunders was a resident and community member in Mountain View, helping with the development of Mountain View Park and its recreation center.In her honor, the city unveiled an honorary street sign above Ocean View Blvd. for Saunders. "Theresa Mae Saunders was a pillar of the Mountain View community," Councilmember Georgette Gómez said. "This honorary street name is one way we can commemorate her life of service to this community and to the City of San Diego."Saunders raised six children while also taking part in local volunteer work, feeding the homeless, and hosting garage sales to benefit those in need. 801
