(KGTV) - A La Mesa woman is on the hunt for clues, after she made a startling discovery near a sidewalk during a walk.Along scenic Explorer Road, Patty Serrano was finishing up a walk with a friend one afternoon two Fridays ago, when something on the ground caught her eye."First of all shock. Why is this on the ground? I picked it up. Dried it and flattened it," said Serrano.The document was a Plank Owner Certificate. Serrano, a retired Navy officer, knew exactly what that meant. "I knew those are rare, issued to people who are the first crew members of a ship," said Serrano.The certificates aren't official Navy documents. They are created and distributed by crew members. The ship attached to this certificate was the U.S.S. Rockwall, a Haskell-class attack transport that served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.The commissioning date listed is January 1945.RELATED: City of San Diego teams up with Marine Corps to advance drone technology"The clue is the member's name. I believe it was Lieutenant Junior Grade H.A. Post, United States Naval Reserve," said Serrano.She posted details of her discovery on the Nextdoor app. She also left messages for neighbors in the area, but so far, no one has come forward."I think it would be great to get back this back to the crew member if he's still alive or the family member ... to preserve it for society, to admire it and understand what the significance was," said Serrano.The theories of how the document ended up on the ground run the gamut. Did it drop out during a move? Did a burglar leave it behind? However it happened, Serrano is determined to find its rightful owner."When you are on that ship, you earn that document. It had great importance to that person ... LANATANA, Florida — A man jumped out of bushes and randomly attacked a woman with a chainsaw around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Lantana police said.The woman, who is in her 60s, was walking along Hypoluxo Road near Seacrest Boulevard when the man attacked her, according to police.The woman was taken to a local hospital for with serious injuries to the chest and hands but is expected to survive.Lantana police have the attacker in custody. They identified him as 20-year-old Juan Cabrera Jr."He actually made a comment that he woke up this morning, went and got something to eat. We can't confirm or deny if he's got any kind of mental illness or not. But he did make a comment to the investigator that he saw the lady in the area and he quote stated, 'I'm going to end this woman's life,' " Lantana Police Chief Sean Scheller said.The incident occurred near the Super 8 Motel at 1200 Hypoluxo Blvd., where the suspect was staying.The woman said she did not know the man and thought he was a landscaper, police said. LIMON, Colo. -- When they first teed off this fall, the Limon High School boys’ golf team wasn’t sure what to expect.“We try to give 100% effort,” said Brady Rockwell.“We just kind of have to keep moving forward,” said senior Kory Tacha.They played with the same competitive spirit they always have.“They just want to compete,” said head golf coach Andrew Love. “And we wanted them to have that opportunity.”After all, "Badger Pride" isn’t just an empty expression around here.“Two back-to-back championships,” said Trey Jeffries.“Two-time state champs,” Love said.Yet this team isn’t exactly what you might expect.“Some of them have never even picked up a club before,” said Trey Hines.The 2020 Limon golf team is actually the Limon football team.“Almost all of the football players are out here,” said Hines, the quarterback of the football team.The boys were essentially forced into a more socially distant sport by the coronavirus.“It’s a work in progress for all of us, I think,” Tacha said. “Golf is just one thing to take our mind off all the changes and have a little bit of normalcy. We just want to be out here doing something.”“There’s no trash talking in golf, really,” laughed senior Gaige Hilferty, who also wrestles and plays baseball. “I’ve always wanted to golf, and the school never offered it.”“I’ve never really been a golfer,” said Rockwell, a cornerback on the football team.In fact, there was no golf team at all in Limon until COVID-19 disrupted the world of high school sports.“They were like, ‘Well, what are we going to do, coach?’” said Love, who is also the head football coach. “And I was like, ‘Well, we can create a golf team!’ Almost half-joking. Kind of hoping that it wouldn’t happen, and it did.”What it did was kept this team together.“We had about 22 kids out here,” Hines said.It kept them social.“I’m definitely glad we’re just doing something out here,” Hines said. “And not sitting at home mourning the loss of football. I’d definitely rather be competing at something.”And kept them competitive.“I’m definitely learning something new and getting better at it,” Rockwell said.A little diversion for the reigning back-to-back Colorado Class 1A football champions.“You have to have the nice, proper clap,” Hilferty said. “Not the yelling and screaming that goes hand-in-hand with football. Golf is a game of patience.”“Hopefully this year we can do the same thing,” Love said.Limon finished its golf season at the end of September and has now restarted its football program thanks to new guidance from the Colorado High School Activities Association. After initially announcing football would be played next spring in Colorado, CHSAA recently reversed that decision, allowing teams to play this fall if they opted for Season A.“I’m just looking forward to starting play,” Rockwell said. “I want to play as soon as possible.”The Limon Badgers will play their first football game of the season this coming Monday, Oct. 12 against Yuma High School. (KGTV) — Hundreds of protesters gathered at La Mesa City Hall on Saturday to demand justice for women of color, as police issued an order banning certain items in areas around the La Mesa Civic Center.The "We Demand Justice For Our Women Of Color" event called for justice for Breonna Taylor, killed by Louisville police officers in March, and Vanessa Guillen, a soldier at Fort Hood, in Texas, who was killed by another soldier in April, according to a flyer for the event.About 300 demonstrators gathered for the event, according to La Mesa Police. Police said many were gathered in a parking lot at Date Ave. and Allison Ave. near City Hall, before marching southbound from the location. A large group also gathered at the VFW lot at 8118 University Ave. and several groups were reportedly in the area on foot and in vehicles, police added.An ABC 10News photographer captured video showing a separate group of demonstrators with American and "Trump 2020" flags gathering as well. Police said many members of the group identified themselves as part of the “Defend East County” group.Police said that there were several physical altercations between the two groups as one group marched past the VFW. At least one arrest was made: Ryan McAdams, 35, of Jamul, was arrested on charges of battery and possession of pepper spray, as well as a probation violation, according to LMPD.City Councilwoman Dr. Akilah Weber told ABC 10News that she witnessed one scuffle, but saw protesters stop it before it became worse."Some of the members from the protest group jumped in between that one protester and the group of counter-protesters that were going back and forth and reminded the protester that's not what they were there for," Weber said. "They were not there to cause any harm to any residents to any businesses. Not really to disrupt anything but to just get the message out."There was also a minor altercation at the corner of Baltimore Dr. and University Ave., but it was broken up without further incident.LMPD says Chief Walt Vasquez met with organizers for both groups and notified them that officers are there to facilitate a safe event and asked for their cooperation to do so. A heavy law enforcement presence kept both groups separated throughout the day."I would like to thank the organizers of all of the groups in attendance tonight for their efforts to ensure a successful event for all involved. I wholeheartedly support the citizens’ right to peacefully exercise their first amendment rights, and the men and women of the La Mesa Police Department are here to support that. I would also like to thank the numerous law enforcement partners from around the county, as well as Heartland Fire, for assisting us tonight," Vasquez said in a release after the protest.At 10:30 p.m., police said that most of the demonstrators had left the area. No major injuries were reported.Ahead of the event, LMPD issued a Temporary Area Restriction (TAR) prohibiting certain items near the La Mesa Civic Center area. The items were banned from the area surrounded by University Ave., Spring St., and Allison Ave. The city said anyone violating this order would be prosecuted.The police department said that it had, "made numerous attempts to communicate with organizers of the protest and march so we can work together to ensure a safe environment where their voices can be heard. Unfortunately, all attempts to contact the organizers have been unsuccessful."The order comes more than a month after the city experienced rioting in areas of La Mesa after a peaceful protest outside the city's police department turned violent. 3645

That’s the eye-raising message from the World Health Organization as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the globe.“There’s no better way to convey trust. No better way to convey camaraderie and humanity," said Dave Sylvester.Sylvester is what you may call a prolific hugger, traveling across the country and around the world, helping people in need, like buying dinner for essential workers and volunteering.“I am the hug man. I am the human high-five. I am all of that stuff,” he said.He’s on his way to Las Vegas where he held a personal record of more than 1,300 hugs back in 2017. But the pandemic has changed his routine due to social distancing.“I have gone from an average of 47 hugs and high fives a day to 9 hugs and high fives…since March,” he said.This comes as the WHO Monday asked people not to hug to prevent spreading COVID-19, especially in places like the U.S. where cases are spiking.“It’s a horrible thing to think that we would be here as the World Health Organization saying to people, don’t hug each other. It’s terrible, but that is the brutal reality in places like the United States right now,” Dr. Michael Ryan, executive director of the health emergencies program with the WHO.Psychologists say hugs can be great for mental health as it releases hormones that help with empathy and trust. While it’s not as good as hugging a real person or your pets, they say you might try hugging your pillow, or even a stuffed animal.“Don’t discount one of the secondary methods until you’ve tried it,” Jessica Shearin, a local psychologist, said.Sylvester says it’s unfortunate to not hug as much but says that’s not stopping him from meeting others.“We understood the severity of everything that’s going on and we just shared a smile.
