TAIPEI, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Experts from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan Wednesday started their second round of talks in Taipei to pave the way for a long-awaited economic deal that is expected to boost cross-Strait economic ties. The two-day meeting in Tashi, Taoyuan county, is expected to speed up the consultation process of the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), which is intended to normalize mainland-Taiwan economic ties and bring the two economies closer. The two sides are expected to exchange views on operational and technological topics including the main content of the agreement and consultation arrangements in the future. The mainland side is composed of directors of the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), experts and economic affairs officials.Tang Wei, director-general of the Ministry of Commerce's Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao affairs department, said such an agreement would further cross-Strait economic cooperation, and help the two sides cope with the impact of possible economic crises in the future and the increasingly competitive international market.

BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- China hopes that the deal Iran struck with Brazil and Turkey will help advance the process of resolving the Iran nuclear issue through dialogue and negotiations, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Tuesday.Yang made the comments in telepone conversations with his Turkish and Brazilian counterparts, Ahmet Davutoglu and Celso Amorim.Yang said that China has always sticked to the "dual-track" strategy in seeking a solution to the Iran nuclear issue and China appreciates the mediation efforts made by Turkey and Brazil.China attaches importance to and welcomes the agreement the two countries signed with Iran on supplying nuclear fuel for the research reactor in Tehran, he added.Davutoglu and Amorim briefed Yang on the efforts Turkey and Brazil have made concerning the Iran nuclear issue. They stressed that the deal the two countries reached with Iran is an important and positive step, which offers a new chance for the international community to peacefully solve the Iran nuclear issue through diplomatic means.Iran signed an accord with Turkey and Brazil in Tehran on Monday under which it will ship most of its low enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for the 20-percent uranium fuel needed for its Tehran reactor.

BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has pledged to further reform of income distribution to narrow the gap between rich and poor and secure social stability. In an article published Thursday in Qiushi, or "Seeking Truth," the official magazine of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Wen said greater efforts were needed to build a rational income distribution structure."If the income gap continues to widen, it will pose a major threat to our economic development and social stability," Wen wrote. "We are poised and capable of gradually resolving this problem with a sound momentum of economic and social development and greater sustainability in various fields."Complaints have been growing about how the income growth of many Chinese was lagging behind the rise in state fiscal revenue. Low incomes have been blamed for dragging down consumer spending."We will not only make the 'pie' of social wealth bigger by developing the economy, but also distribute it well on the basis of a rational income distribution system," Wen wrote.
