He's a dog — a chihuahua named Chickpea.Chickpea is a tiny Chihuahua with a giant place in Ann-Eve Dingell's heart.“He is unrelentingly this little blithe spirit who's just kind-hearted and thinks the world loves him as much as he loves the world."But she is a wreck because a few days ago. Chickpea disappeared from her yard in Winterhaven, Arizona. She says he wouldn't run away. She's worried someone took him.That's because Chickpea is an internet sensation. Art often provokes emotion and helps us travel back in time, teaching us about our ancestors.“Hola, my name is Claudia Moran and I’m the Executive Director for Museo de las Americas,” Moran said.At Museo de las Americas in Denver, Colorado, Latinx artists are given a space to represent their culture.“Art is very powerful in the influence of Latinx artists and the history of art in the United States,” Moran said.In the midst of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Museo is hosting an exhibition called Rhythm and Ritual.“It’s an exhibition that showcases a pre-Columbian collection that focuses on musical instruments. And yes, it’s a very, very rare exhibition because we’re able to see many pre-Columbian exhibitions everywhere, but none that only focus on music,” Moran said.The goal is to demonstrate the value of music since the pre-Columbian times and educate people on the type of music that was played 1,500 years ago. Museo de las Americas commissioned a local Hispanic artist to help tell that story. David Ocelotl Garcia is a sculpture and painter.Garcia grew up in Colorado, but his parents are from Mexico.“My mother is from Guadalajara, Jalisco, and my father is from Leon, Guanajuato,” Garcia said.He says he feels connected to his culture and finds it beautiful.“My heritage is very significant in my work, so I’ve learned to really study that and use it so that I can tell my own stories about where we are today.”For the Rhythm and Ritual exhibition, he painted a mural he admired as a child.“He reproduced an original mural from Bonampak in Mexico from the state of Chiapas, and this mural is a very accurate replica of a group of Mayan people playing different instruments,” Moran said.“I believe they’re probably participating in a ceremony, so there’s many characters playing different instruments that many people, including myself, have never seen,” Garcia said.Garcia says it’s important for people not to forget where they come from.“Make sure we embrace our roots and our traditions and the way we do things and use that as a part of the way we advance and move forward,” Garcia said.As we move forward as a society, Moran says we can learn from our ancestors and appreciate what different cultures have to bring to the table.“We all should be very, very open to new ideas, don’t be scared of them, and embrace them because that’s what is going to take us through arts and our artistic lives to a whole new level,” Moran said. 2462

An 11-year-old elephant died at Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, Arizona on Tuesday.Punga, a male, died due to double mesenteric root torsion, also known as twisted gut.The condition is known to occur suddenly and is usually deadly. According to Reid Park Zoo veterinarian Alexis Moreno, torsions are more common in horses than in elephants. The cause is not known. Post-mortem tests could reveal the cause in several weeks. 429

American broadcaster Hugh Downs has died at the age of 99. The Downs family says Hugh died peacefully on Wednesday at his Scottsdale, Arizona home and was surrounded by family. Downs was born in Akron, Ohio on February 14, 1921.He had a career which spanned more than 60 years. Notably, Downs was a co-host on NBC's Today from 1962-1971, later he hosted 20/20 on ABC from 1978-1999 and announced for Tonight Starring Jack Paar.He also hosted the game show Concentration from 1958-1969. An investigation into what led up to an explosion that hurt officers and a hostage situation in North Haven continued on Thursday.State police said a man held his wife hostage inside of a home on Quinnipiac Avenue for several days.She escaped, but he barricaded himself inside a barn near a house on the property.That's when police said the explosion happened on Wednesday night.Eight officers were hurt and the suspect is not in custody. Police said they continue to search for him.The area surrounding the property has been blocked off by rows of cruisers. Quinnipiac Avenue is closed between McArthur Road and Pent Way.North Haven police said they first responded around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.A woman went to the North Haven Police Department with a complaint about an incident at the Quinnipiac Avenue home.Police said the woman had managed to escape after she was held hostage for three days by her husband.Troopers told Channel 3 that they determined a tactical response was necessary.A SWAT team was called in to help.While police and the SWAT team were negotiating with the man, state police said there was an explosion at a barn near the home.Flames were captured in video that was recorded at the scene.The last time the man was seen was when he was barricaded inside of the barn."The suspect is not in custody at this time," said trooper Kelly Grant, Connecticut State Police. "They are still attempting to locate that suspect. They have asked the residents right in this general vicinity to shelter in place while they conducted this investigation."The eight tactical officers who were hurt in the explosion were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.None of their injuries were life-threatening.State police have taken over the investigation.  1762
