PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- A Charlotte County deputy was forced to use his firearm to defend himself from charging dogs during a call Thursday morning.According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, the deputy responded to a call from a resident who was afraid to exit his truck due to three loose and aggressive pit bulls in his yard.The deputy arrived to observe the dogs, described as approximately 100 pounds each, leaving the man's yard and chasing chickens in the next yard.As the deputy was speaking to the resident, the dogs returned and began to charge the men, forcing the resident back into his truck and chasing the deputy around it.The deputy fired his weapon at two of the dogs before they retreated down the road.Animal Control arrived and took the dogs into custody, giving the injured dogs treatment.They are investigating any possible citations for the owners. 889

Reports indicate that Toys R Us could be the next retailer to file for bankruptcy.The Wall Street Journal reports that the toy retailer could file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the next few weeks, just a few months out from the crucial holiday season.According to the Journal, the chain's suppliers are hesitant to ship new items before putting money down. The company is facing a debt of billion stemming from a leveraged buyout in 2005.Toys R Us has already received most of its holiday shipments, but could soon be prevented from receiving any additional toys before the shopping season begins.Toys R Us is just one of a number of retailers who have struggled as Americans have started doing more of their shopping online. Rescuers worked through the night to attempt to account for all of the victims of Tuesday's Morandi Bridge disaster in Genoa, as Italy's President called for a "serious and severe examination" into why the bridge suddenly collapsed.At least 36 people died when a major section of the motorway in Italy's northwest partially collapsed during a heavy storm, according to Chief of Police Col. President Donald Trump tweeted a photo on Wednesday of rockets that were aimed at the US Embassy in Baghdad, and claimed that the rockets were fired by Iran.The attack came on Sunday, embassy officials confirmed. Trump said that three of the rockets failed to launch.The embassy said that there was minor damage to the compound, but no injuries.
