LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - University of California San Diego Police are investigating threats of violence to the campus during finals week. The generalized, non-specific threats were written on three women’s bathroom doors in Geisel Library, officials said. Police were notified about the threats Sunday night and Monday afternoon, according to University Police Chief David S. Rose. “Our University takes every threat of violence extremely seriously and the UC San Diego Police Department has responded and is investigating,” Rose said. Officers interviewed potential witnesses and are reviewing video to identity the person or persons responsible for the postings. UC San Diego officials consulted with police, the Behavioral Threat Team, local and federal law enforcement, and a threat assessment expert before deciding to continue with its regular finals week schedule, Rose said. LINDA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Survivors of violent sexual predators gathered today to protest the release of convicted sex offender Alan Earl James. They put up posters in the restaurant where they held the rally which said, “We don’t want a rape whistle, we want change” and “You care more about the rapist than you do the victim.”James was convicted of felony sex crimes on minors in 1981 and 1986 and sentenced to 28 years in state prison. A judge has recommended his release, but his survivor Robert Nabors says he should stay behind bars. Nabors said, “He will re-offend if he gets out. He did it once before. They gave him a slap on the wrist for raping me, and when he got out, he raped two other girls.”His placement hearing is tomorrow. If he’s released, he’ll be placed in Jacumba Hot Springs community. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Protesters gathered at the La Mesa Police Department Tuesday evening, once again calling for more transparency and accountability from the department. The protest came just a few days after the department announced that former LMPD officer Matt Dages was no longer employed with the department. Dages was the officer caught on video during the arrest of Amaurie Johnson in May. The charges against Johnson were later dropped. Activists say the department's statement about Dages' employment was vague. They want the former officer charged and arrested.In a press conference hours before the protest, Johnson said he wants equality and will keep fighting for change until it happens. The protest remained peaceful; officers did detain a counter-protester but later told ABC 10News he was released after determining no crime had been committed. 877
