DENVER, Colorado — A gunman did not go to Arapahoe High School "this past Friday" with the intention of killing people.According to a post that's been circulating on Facbook for awhile, the shooter was "the only one dead" after an "armed school resource officer confronted him." That post has been recirculating following a deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida on Feb. 14, 2018, which has spurred a bigger national conversation about arming teachers and about gun control.There was not a school shooting incident in Arapahoe recently, nor on Dec. 11, 2015. There was a shooting at the school Dec. 13, 2013 in which a shooter, an 18-year-old senior and debate club member, did shoot another student, who died several days later. The gunman also attempted to start a fire in the school and eventually shot himself in the head.According to fact-checker website Snopes.com, a school custodian saw the shooter and alerted security personnel. Those security professionals were joined by a deputy, but none shot the gunman.They did help minimize casualties by directing civilians at the scene and racing to confront the shooter.CNN reports the entire incident was over in 80 seconds. Defense attorneys for the suspect in the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre entered a plea of not guilty Thursday to federal charges and requested a jury trial.Robert Bowers, 46, walked into court in wrist and ankle restraints Thursday, his second court appearance this week, after a federal grand jury indicted him on 44 federal charges in last weekend's slaying of 11 worshippers at the Tree of Life synagogue.During the arraignment, Bowers watched prosecutors and nodded periodically. He responded "yes" that he understood the penalties of the charges, and his public defender, Michael J. Novara, entered a plea of not guilty "as is typical," he said.Of the 44 charges, 32 counts are punishable by death, a grand jury filing released Wednesday said.The court hearing comes the same day that crowds of mourners will lay more victims to rest and as their memorials continue to grow.On Monday, Bowers had been brought to the courtroom in a wheelchair and only spoke to answer the judge's questions. DENVER, Colorado — Tom Sullivan, whose son Alex died in a mass shooting inside a Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado in 2012, unseated Republican incumbent Cole Wist to win the state House seat for District 37.As of early Wednesday morning, Sullivan had 53 percent of the votes with 95 percent of results reported.Sullivan, a veteran, is a proponent of gun control. He's visited the Colorado state Capitol more than 20 times to testify in favor of of various gun control measures.Sullivan's son Alex was killed along with 11 others on his 27th birthday when a gunman opened fired in a movie theater during a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" on July 20, 2012. 697

DETROIT — A woman says a Detroit family doctor fathered hundreds of babies, which included her. The woman says she took a DNA test and traced it back to her family's doctor.Jaime Hall says she recently discovered that her biological father is actually Dr. Philip Peven, who’s now 104 years old. Peven admitted to fathering her and potentially hundreds of others and says he and a group of doctors donated their own sperm to couples having trouble conceiving for decades.“I go, 'I think my Mom's doctor is my Dad,'” Hall said.Hall says she couldn’t believe it when she took a DNA test through ancestry.com. The results came back and said her family's doctor was the person who fathered her.She says she confronted Peven about the DNA results.“I said, 'Sid you ever think that DNA would bring back all your biological children to you?' And he said, 'oh, no,'” she said.Hall says she wasn’t the only person who took a test. Shortly after, she received a call from a half-brother.“He had done more research in this and said, 'You have another half-brother that you can call today. It’s his birthday and he’d love to get a sister on his birthday,'” Hall said.Hall says her parents, who have both died, had no idea Peven used his own sperm. They went to Grace Hospital in Detroit in the 1950s because they were having a difficult time conceiving. Hall says Peven would inseminate his patients with a fresh sperm sample from himself or one of the other doctors. Hall says she believes Peven was more of a scientist, and a doctor second.“He said, 'I was on the cutting edge, a pioneer... to be doing what I was doing at my practice,'” Hall said.But when Peven’s grandson matched with Hall and showed up as her half nephew, it was all the proof she needed. Hall says Peven admitted to fathering her and potentially hundreds of children over his 40-year career.“His daughter by marriage said to me once, 'Dad, you could have hundreds, maybe thousands of kids,'" Hall said. "And he goes, 'I guess that’s true.'
