Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden discussed coronavirus vaccines during an event Wednesday after being briefed by public health experts on the issue.During his speech, Biden said that while he trusts what scientists say about a potential vaccine, he doesn’t trust President Donald Trump.He mentioned what he called Trump’s “incompetence and dishonesty” surrounding the distribution of personal protective equipment and coronavirus testing. “We can’t afford to repeat those fiascos when it comes to a vaccine,” said the former vice president. “I trust vaccines, I trust scientists, but I don’t trust Donald Trump, and at this moment, the American people can’t, either.”The Trump campaign has accused Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris, of sowing doubt about a potential vaccine by expressing concerns that politics count taint the approval process.Asked whether his comments could undermine public trust in scientists, Biden said the vaccine approval process should be “totally transparent” and it should be evaluated by a “board of scientists” that could give the public an unbiased opinion.Watch his remarks below:Biden's speech took place the same day that the federal government unveiled initial plans to distribute COVID-19 vaccines when they become available.According to a plan put forth by the Department of Defense and other federal agencies, the first round of vaccines would be reserved for medical professionals and essential workers. Eventually, vaccines would be distributed to whoever would like one.Vaccines would be provided to the public without cost thanks to Congress's legislation and signed into law by President Donald Trump.However, The Associated Press reports that officials face an uphill battle in getting the country vaccinated. Delta Air Lines had a nearly 75% drop in revenue in the third quarter of 2020 compared to 2019 as many coronavirus-weary travelers are putting off excursions on airplanes.The airline has had to cut flights, block middle seats, and scale back its operations due to the coronavirus pandemic. Delta has said, however, it intends to hold off furloughing or laying off employees until November.In the wake of the pandemic, Delta said it is putting off a billion purchase of airplanes through 2022.While Delta’s revenue dropped by over 75%, its expenses only dropped 10%, some of which is due to a drop in fuel costs.Despite a gloomy financial picture, there is optimism travelers are beginning to return to the skies.“While our September quarter results demonstrate the magnitude of the pandemic on our business, we have been encouraged as more customers travel and we are seeing a path of progressive improvement in our revenues, financial results and daily cash burn,” said Ed Bastian, Delta’s Chief Executive Officer. “The actions we are taking now to take care of our people, simplify our fleet, improve the customer experience, and strengthen our brand will allow Delta to accelerate into a post-COVID recovery.”But even with a slow return to normalcy, Delta expects revenues to be down for years to come.“With a slow and steady build in demand, we are restoring flying to meet our customers’ needs, while staying nimble with our capacity in light of COVID-19,” said Glen Hauenstein, Delta’s President. “While it may be two years or more until we see a normalized revenue environment, by restoring customer confidence in travel and building customer loyalty now, we are creating the foundation for sustainable future revenue growth.” 1817

Despite instituting orders limiting large gatherings throughout the state, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has invited local lawmakers and other officials to the state governor's mansion for Christmas parties in the coming days, according to Mississippi Today and the Washington Post.According to Mississippi Today, Reeves, a Republican, has issued executive orders that limit indoor gatherings to no more than 10 people, limit outdoor gatherings to 50 people and require the use of masks or facial coverings indoors for 54 of the state's 82 counties. Those orders include Hinds County, home of the state capital of Jackson and the governor's mansion.But despite those orders, Reeves has reportedly sent invitations to state and district elected officials throughout the state to attend three separate Christmas parties at the governor's mansion, including parties for both the state Senate and House of Representatives.While it's not known how many people are invited to each party, it would appear that more than 10 people would be attending. The State House has 122 members, and the Senate has 52 members.Mississippi Today also reports that Reeves attended a fundraiser hosted by a hospital executive last week that included more than 20 guests.Bailey Martin, a spokesperson for the governor, told Mississippi Today that the events will follow Reeves' orders."The Governor and first lady have canceled or delayed many mansion events this year including the 1st Friday Christmas Candlelighters event and their daughter's 16th birthday party, and have only continued with those events that can be conducted safely," Martin said.Reeves' wife, Elee, said on Monday that she would not be opening the governor's mansion for public tours of the Christmas decorations, as she had in years past. 1794

DELANO, Calif. -- Police in Central California have asked prosecutors to look into filing criminal charges against two Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents involved in a deadly chase, according to the Associated Press.Authorities say Santo Garcia and Marcelina Garcia died in rural Delano in March when their SUV hit a pole and overturned as they ran from ICE agents.Police in Delano determined that ICE agents pulled over the SUV before the crash. Agents got out of their vehicle but the driver of the SUV took off.RELATED: Immigration and Customs Enforcement stop followed by deadly crash in Central Valley?Police said the SUV was speeding when the driver lost control after driving onto a dirt shoulder.Santo and Marcelina were in the country illegally but Santos was not the man agents were searching for, police said.  Police recommended that the agents be charged with a misdemeanor of providing false information to a peace officer. 973

DELANO, Calif. (KGTV) - Two people died in a crash Tuesday after a traffic stop by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the city of Delano, near Bakersfield.The Delano Police Department arrived at the scene of the rollover just before 7 a.m. Officers found the SUV on its roof with two victims inside.Police said the SUV had been speeding when the driver went onto a dirt shoulder and lost control. The SUV flipped and stopped after it hit a power pole, according to police.The man and woman inside the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene.Delano officers determined ICE agents had pulled over the SUV before the crash. Agents got out of their vehicle but the SUV driver left the scene. The SUV crashed a short time later.There is no word on the identities of the victims or why they were pulled over. 824
