SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was medevaced from a Carnival cruise ship Monday after a reported stroke. According to the Coast Guard, the rescue happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday roughly 45 miles northwest of San Diego. A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched to assist. Once on the scene, the Jayhawk crew lowered a rescue swimmer to the cruise ship to assess the 58-year-old man. The crew took the man to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla just after 9:20 p.m., according to the Coast Guard. The man is said to be in stable condition. 540

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man died following a shooting in downtown San Diego Thursday evening, police said.The shooting was reported just after 9:40 p.m. near the intersection of 5th Avenue and E Street in the Gaslamp Quarter, according to San Diego police.According to police, an altercation broke out between a man and his companion and a third man. Police said during the altercation, the third man produced a handgun and shot one of the men in the upper torso. The suspected shooter and the victim's companion both fled the scene.The victim was rushed to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment, but he later died from his injuries. Police identified him as a 22-year-old Hispanic male.While the victim's companion was found a short distance away, police are still searching for the gunman. The suspected shooter was described as a Black male with braided hair, between 20-40 years of age, and wearing a bandana or rag over his face. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and running on eastbound E Street.Police are interviewing witnesses and viewing surveillance video footage from area businesses as part of the investigation. 1141

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of breaking into a Pacific Beach home and sexually assaulting a sleeping woman earlier in the month, San Diego Police said.Jeffrey Hanze, also known as Jeffrey Hanre, was taken into custody in Los Angeles County by sheriff’s deputies at 3:45 a.m. No details about the arrest were released.Hanze entered a home in Pacific Beach through an open window about 2 a.m. the morning of October 1, San Diego Police said. RELATED: Police release photo of Pacific Beach sexual assault suspectInvestigators said Hanze sexually assaulted the woman who was sleeping, but left when she woke up.Hanze was considered armed and dangerous at the time of his arrest.10News checked Hanze's criminal background and found he has at least two felonies out of San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A homeless man was attacked with a skateboard while sleeping in North Park Saturday, San Diego Police said.The man was asleep in the south alley of El Cajon Blvd. at 28th St. when a man hit him repeatedly with a skateboard, said officers.The victim suffered serious head trauma and was taken to the hospital.Police said the attacker is white, about six feet tall, and between 19 and 26 years old. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A partnership with the United Way and the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council pulled off a donation drive-through at SDCCU Stadium Tuesday morning that served 500 families in need.Cars holding vouchers from the various unions represented by the council lined up and proceeded through the assembly line, loading up with food and toys donated by their fellow workers.Every year, thousands of union workers make a monthly donation from their paychecks to assist their fellow working families and community members in need. This year's recipients included fire victims and other families identified by several non-profit partners, according to representatives with the Labor Council."You've got electricians and teachers out here helping school bus drivers and janitors and security guards, those who have fallen on hard times and need a little extra help," says Keith Maddox with the Labor Council.Holding two events, one in San Diego and the other in Imperial County, 650 families total were served by the annual donation drive.Feeding San Diego helps procure the food for the drive, according to Unions United/United Way of San Diego County President and CEO Nancy Sasaki. 1209
