SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Uber says its mask verification safety feature is now available to all riders in the U.S. and Canada.The company made the announcement Thursday and also revealed it has removed the access of more than 1,250 riders since its “No Mask, No Ride” policy was put in effect in May.Beginning Thursday, if a driver reports that a rider wasn’t wearing a mask in their vehicle, the rider will be required to take a selfie with their mask or face covering before they’re able to take another trip with Uber.With the addition of the new feature, Uber says one driver's feedback can help ensure the safety of using Uber for the next driver."We all have a shared responsibility to help keep our communities safe and healthy and we're working with riders, drivers, delivery people and restaurants to make sure we're doing our part," said Matthew Price, Uber Canada's General Manager. (KGTV) - Students at Cal State-San Marcos will spend time Tuesday and Thursday this week painting as a way to process their emotions in the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.They're making a pair of murals, in conjunction with the Art Miles Project.One mural features 17 peace signs, each with the name of one of the victims of the shooting. The other features a dove with 17 rays of color coming out of it, also honoring the victims.Organizers say it's their way to let the victims know they have support from all over. It also helps the people who are painting sort through their own emotions and grief."I see the healing power that it has," says Joanne Tawfilis, the Director of the Art Miles Project, which organizes the murals.She's been doing murals like this for 20 years. Every time there is a major shooting or natural disaster, she organizes a way for people to paint."It makes me feel good," she says. "But it also makes me feel sad that we’re in a state in the world that this violence continues."Over the last 20 years, the Art Miles Project has been involved in painting 5,000 murals in over 100 countries. All of the materials are donated.In addition to the two murals that students will paint at Cal State-San Marcos, Tawfilis says the public is invited to the Muramid Museum and Art Center this weekend to paint more. 1391

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Fast-moving floodwaters swept a vehicle away in Santa Clarita Thursday as what is being called an “atmospheric river” set up over the area, according to KABC. The incident happened along Road Runner Road, per tweets from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Santa Clarity Valley station.Due to the flooding the road was shut down. The driver was able to make it out of the vehicle safely thanks to good Samaritans.The man's car was totaled, but before he even had a chance to dry off, a neighbor bought him a replacement SUV, KABC reported.  598

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Firefighters were able to knock down a two acre brush fire in San Ysidro Sunday morning. According to San Diego Fire Rescue, the fire sparked just before 7:20 a.m. in a rural canyon east of San Ysidro. The department says, due to the difficult terrain, crews had to be flown in to fight the blaze. SARASOTA, Fla. -- A Florida family is relieved their 4-year-old daughter is still alive days after she swallowed water in the family's swimming pool while playing with a pool noodle.Elianna Grace has been fighting an infection ever since."Were you scared?" Lacey Grace asked her daughter. "No, she wasn’t scared she was super, super, super brave!"Even after Elianna was hooked up to IVs, oxygen tanks and a nebulizer this week, fighting an infection caused by the chemicals in her family pool."It was just a fun game. You know, when somebody would go by her or swim by her she would take the noodle and pretend like she wasn’t looking and she would shoot water at them," said Grace. "Then somebody wanted to do it back to her and didn’t realize that she was already on the other end of it."Water was blown down her throat. She threw it up right away and started acting normal."I wouldn’t have known about it if that one person didn’t write that story," said Grace, referring to the story about a 4-year-old Texas boy who died last year after dry drowning.Lacey recalled that article right after the incident. Two days later, Elianna developed a fever and by the next day her skin had turned purple. She knew something was wrong."I called my husband and I was crying and I said you know they said to get her to the nearest ER as quick as you can," said Grace.The water at some point seeped into Elianna's lungs and she was slowly dry drowning. Grace says because of this little boy's parents and their story, her daughter is alive."Being a mom is hard work, but I read every article I can as much as I can about being a parent just to be ready if something like this happens," Grace said.She encourages other parents to do the same. 1754
