(CNS) -- An online petition urging a delay of the scheduled reopening of the Disneyland Resort due to the risk of guests contracting coronavirus has acquired more than 26,000 signatures as of this weekend.The change.org petition was started by a user called "We Are Anonymous" and states that because COVID-19 cases are rising, Disneyland Resort is "endangering cast members and guests to be exposed to (coronavirus)" with its planned reopening of Disneyland and California Adventure on July 17. The Downtown Disney shopping district is scheduled to reopen July 9."There are more cases now than when the parks closed on March 13th, 2020," the petition said. "Health Officials have stated that the 2nd wave of Covid-19 will be worse. An Ohio man slated to be executed on Wednesday will be allowed to use a special wedged-shape pillow as he is put to death by lethal injection, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Alva Campbell, 69, will lie on the pillow as a three-drug cocktail will be administered to execute Campbell after he was convicted for the kidnapping and killing of an 18-year-old Columbus man. Campbell was on parole at the time after being charged with aggravated murder from a 1972 killing. According to the Dispatch, Campbell has pulmonary problems and it is difficult for him to lie flat without choking.Last week, Ohio Gov. John Kasich said that he would not put a stop to the execution, despite a clemency request by Campbell's attorney.Campbell has also requested to be executed by firing squad, citing that a prison nurse was unable to find a suitable vein for an IV. A federal judge ruled out that as an option for Campbell. The Dispatch reported, citing court records, that Campbell uses a walker, relies on an external colostomy bag and requires four breathing treatments a day. ANAHEIM (CNS) - A man working in a trench at Disneyland in Anaheim suffered fatal injuries Thursday when a steel plate fell on him. Paramedics were called to the park about 3:20 a.m., a Metro Net Fire dispatcher said. Javier Jimenez, a 37-year-old West Covina resident, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to Carrie Braun, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Coroner's Office. Jimenez was working for a contractor installing piping for a heating and air conditioning system outside of the theme park on Disneyland property, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt. Wyatt said a crane carrying a large pipe accidentally struck a cross beam, which knocked over a large metal plate shoring up a wall. He said the metal plate knocked over the worker, who was in an 8- to 10-foot-deep trench. ``We are saddened by this tragic accident involving a contractor and on behalf of Disneyland Resort extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Jimenez's family, friends and co-workers,'' said Liz Jaeger, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman. 1065
