CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Aquatica San Diego and Chula Vista police are warning trespassers after ABC 10News obtained video showing people inside the closed waterpark riding skateboards on some of their attractions. The clip starts with individuals climbing over barbed wire fencing surrounding the theme park. The group is seen casually walking the grounds of the park then skateboarding on water slides, including the six-story funnel ride Tassie's Twister. The 19-second video appeared on the social media app TikTok on May 19 and has been viewed more than 1.1 million times.10News showed the video to Aquatica, who confirmed there have been trespassing incidents recently. The park added that they have notified police and trespassers will face consequences."While Aquatica is temporarily closed because of COVID-19, the park is monitored 24/7. Our security team has caught trespassers in the park and notified the Chula Vista Police Department. Citations have been issued because trespassing is a misdemeanor crime. If property is damaged, it can be a felony," said Kelly Terry, SeaWorld and Aquatica spokeswoman, in a statement.RELATED: San Diego theme parks aim for July 1 reopening if state allowsCVPD Lt. Chris Kelley confirmed the incidents and said that some individuals have also been arrested. Kelley did not comment about the TikTok video nor offer any details on trespassing cases related to Aquatica. Some of the individuals in the video are recognizable to the camera. ABC 10News is blurring their faces because this station cannot confirm whether they are minors.Kelley says that the consequences for trespassing and vandalism are severe, adding that CVPD developed a video to deter the behavior during the stay-at-home order.RELATED: Video of skateboarding on Mt. Soledad memorial sparks outrage"CVPD reminds the public that trespassing or vandalizing property is prohibited and unlawful. Help officers focus on real emergencies by not violating these laws," the department wrote in a tweet.CVPD said people caught trespassing or vandalizing property can face criminal charges and, if underage, their parents could be held financially liable for damage they cause. Most of California's theme parks have been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. It's not yet clear if the state will allow theme parks to reopen in Stage 3 or Stage 4 of its reopening plan. 2395

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Several Chula Vista elementary schools are working to give students hands-on engineering experience the district says they can take into the job market. On August 1, 2016, a new type of learning burst into being with the start of the Innovation and Energy Station in the Chula Vista Elementary School District. The station helps teach students STEM. The station serves sixth grade students as well as serving as a community lab. In 2018, the lab grew again to include the Energy Station at Saburo Muraoka Elementary School. In August of this year, the program grew yet again to include the Hydro Station, which teaches students about the water industry. The lab begins by helping students identify which careers align with their interests while highlighting jobs in San Diego’s priority sectors. “It was designed to give students the opportunity to learn about their own strengths," Michael Bruder, District engineering teacher told 10News. “The students’ eyes light up when they see the lab space. You get the ‘Wow’ effect. You literally hear the students say ‘Wow!’ as they enter,” Bruder continued. At the Energy Station, students use Minecraft to create an energy efficient home and/or landscape. Students exploring other themes could be testing wind turbines or building circuits. The program also offers students a connection with local employers, giving them the chance to connect their hands-on experience and the region’s in-demand skills. Qualcomm, Microsoft, SDG&E, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association all partner with the program. “I want employers to realize that career education must start before high school,” says Matthew Tessier, assistant superintendent of innovation and instruction at CVESD. “We’d love to partner with more people and expand to every single priority sector.”Click here to learn more about the program. 1950

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — As schools try to navigate the future of in-person education in the era of coronavirus, Southwestern College is already returning some students to campus. The Southwestern College Higher Education Center in Otay Mesa welcomed nursing and health occupational students, along with students in the public safety program, back to campus June 1. These students are training to fill jobs like nurses, EMTs, paramedics, and more.Dean Sylvia Cornejo said since March, they have been using technology for remote learning, but the school has been planning on bringing these students back as quickly as possible because of their careers and the need for essential workers right now.RELATED: San Diego Office of Education releases guidance to reopen schools“The students got as far as they could with online instruction but really we needed to be able to bring them back to campus for all of their practical labs,” she said. She said this location has returned to campus because of the nature of the students, but most of the five Southwestern College locations will remain remote for the fall term. Their next goal is getting dental students at National City campus back to in-person learning.RELATED: San Diego schools allowed to hold on-campus classes under new rulesTo welcome the students back, the school partnered with the college's Jag Kitchen Food Pantry and the college cafeteria. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A Chula Vista man says he got a screeching, costly surprise after he started his car Wednesday morning.Along Regency Way, just before 6:30 a.m., Jimmy got into his Toyota Corolla S, which was parked in the street."Started the car. As I was pulling out, felt my car lurch to the side," said Jimmy, who asked us not to use his last name. The lurch came amid the most awful of noises."Pretty much like a crash ... felt the scraping of my rotor on the asphalt ... and then pretty much my car slammed into the asphalt itself. Traumatized and scared of what happened," said Jimmy. His heart sank as he got out and stared at the driver's side wheels, which had fallen off."My lug nuts were completely missing, all ten of them on the left side," said Jimmy. His repair estimate: a staggering ,500. He's insured with a 0 deductible. "Every little cost affects you. It matters," said Jimmy.Jimmy's vehicle was not the only target. Two blocks away the same morning, another driver shared a similar fate because of stolen lug nuts. A member of the HOA board for the nearby condos told 10news that a month ago, there were reports of a car with loosened lug nuts. The motive of the incidents remain unknown. Jimmy doesn't believe he was personally targeted, but he's fearful the thief will be back at it again. "It could have cost my life or another driver's life. Definitely no joke and not funny," said Jimmy. 1436
