TOKYO, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Fourth Beijing-Tokyo Forum began its plenary meeting Tuesday in Tokyo. Personages and prominent figures from various circles of the two nations had in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations and were of the same opinion that promoting two-way exchanges and mutual trust will be conducive to the advancement of bilateral ties.     At the start of the plenary meeting, Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura and Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cui Tiankai, on behalf of their respective governments, advocated joint efforts Tuesday to push forward the Japan-China relations and conveyed good wishes for their further advance. And China is willing to work with Japan to actively participate in international cooperation in various areas, jointly promote world peace and achieve common development of the human race.     The two sides need to deepen mutual understanding in a bid to continuously promote the sound development of bilateral ties, said Wang, expressing his belief that with goodwill as well as cooperative attitude aimed at win-win results and sincerity for frank exchanges of views, the friendly relations between the two nations are sure to be continuously cemented.     Representatives from political circles as well as friendship bodies, including Zhao Qizheng, chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Chen Haosu, head of the Chinese People's Association of Friendship with Foreign Countries, Li Zhaoxing, chairman of the foreign affairs committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), Yusuhisa Shiozaki, Japan's former chief cabinet secretary, Koichi Kato, chairman of Japan-China Friendship Association, also participated in the discussion of the general situation of China-Japan relations.     Later in the day, the forum had panel dialogues in terms of their respective subjects on such issues as politics, region, media, economy, security, environment and food. Having had frank and in-depth exchanges of views on the relevant issues, representatives of both sides were of the same mind on some issues though remained divided on some others. Most of the participants, however, agreed that the face-to-face exchange of views should be promoted as it helps deepen mutual understanding of the two nations.     The Fourth Beijing-Tokyo Forum opened with a dinner party late Monday. In their speeches at the party, Hiroya Masuda, Japanese Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, and Wang Chen lauded the role the forum has played in the development of bilateral ties and wished it a success.     Present at the three-day forum are more than 100 personages from various circles of both countries.     The annual forum, co-sponsored by China Daily and the non-profit Japanese organization Genron NPO, is held alternately in Beijing and Tokyo. The first Tokyo-Beijing Forum took place in Beijing in August 2005. 

BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday reaffirmed its resolve to keep its economy on track amid the global financial turmoil.     In a meeting with visiting U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel, Vice Premier Wang Qishan said the financial crisis, triggered by the U.S. credit crunch, had exerted a grave impact on the global financial market. Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan(R) shakes hands with visiting U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel in Beijing, capital of China, Oct. 14, 2008 "As a responsible country, China has always valued the communication and cooperation with other nations to ensure world financial and economic stability."     Wang said China would make great efforts to keep its economy on the right track, which would be the country's greatest contribution to the world.     China had implemented and would continue measures to ensure the stability of finance, economy and the capital market, he said, referring to a package of new policies to spur economic growth.     The central bank cut interest rates on Sept. 15 for the first time in six years.     The People's Bank of China, the central bank, announced the deposit and lending rates would be lowered by 0.27 percentage points and the reserve-requirement ratio would be reduced 0.5 percentage points starting Oct. 15.     "With tools at our disposal, we are confident and capable of prevailing over the overall difficulties and challenges," Wang told Hagel.     He added the overall bilateral relations of the two countries had moved forward and become increasingly interdependent since forging diplomatic ties in 1979.     To promote China-U.S. ties was in the fundamental interests of the two nations, he said.     Wang proposed the two deepen a strategic trust and take a candid and pragmatic approach in addressing differences. They should work more closely on economy, trade, investment, energy, environment and high-tech.     He also urged the United States to observe the three joint communiques, refrain from anything harmful to bilateral ties and the stability of the Taiwan Straits, so as to ensure the sound and steady progress of bilateral constructive cooperation.     As all nations were becoming more connected, Hagel, a Republican senator from Nebraska, said the stronger cooperation between the United States and China would help ensure world financial and economic stability.

ZHANJIANG, Guangdong, June 28 (Xinhua) -- After a five-day visit to China, Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer "Sazanami" left the southern Guangdong Province port city of Zhanjiang on Saturday morning.     Sazanami, with its 240-member crew, is the first Japanese warship to visit China since World War II.     A farewell ceremony was held at the port before its departure.     "Please send the love and friendship of the Chinese navy and people back to Japan," Lt.  GUANGZHOU, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Three people were confirmed dead in mud flows and strong winds caused by Typhoon Neoguri in south China's Guangdong Province, said the provincial flood-control headquarters on Sunday.     The typhoon claimed two lives in Shenzhen City, when a mud flow inundated a section of road under construction. One person was hit and killed by an aluminum sheet blown off a stadium roof by strong gales in Zhuhai City, according a headquarters official.     The headquarters did not identify the victims. BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- The Beijing municipal government said on Sunday that the city's state-owned enterprises (SOEs), institutions and social groups should adjust their working hours from July 20 to Sept. 20 to avoid traffic jams. A notice issued by the municipal government said that, except for schools and institutions that provide essential services, SOEs should operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Beijing municipal government said on Sunday that the city's state-owned enterprises (SOEs), institutions and social groups should adjust their working hours from July 20 to Sept. 20 to avoid traffic jams    Large shopping centers should open at 10 a.m. and stay open later in the evening.     Other institutions should operate from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.     Government departments won't alter their hours, the notice said.     The notice also encouraged institutions to handle business online if possible and arrange flex-time arrangements where feasible.
