San Diego (KGTV)- As teachers come up with their virtual lesson plans for the upcoming school year, one local music teacher is turning to the community. Students at Grossmont High School need guitars for class."We'll have 80 students plus taking guitar this year," says teacher Jeremy Cooke. "It is vital for them to be able to play a guitar at home."The high school is not able to provide an instrument for each student."We're a Title I school. So over half of our students get free or reduced lunch, and many can't afford their own guitar."Cooke made a post on Facebook asking for the community to donate any used or new guitars. He says the response has been amazing. As of Monday afternoon, Cooke has received over 30 guitars. Many others are pledging to donate."I've been driving around the county picking up guitars, meeting the people who are donating, and its really neat to see, especially during these tough times."As part of his distance learning plan, Cook has compiled multiple videos recorded over the years to help students learn to play the guitar.Once the class is finished, the students will return the donated guitars to the school for others to use the following year.Grossmont High School is still in need of more guitars. Cooke says he is accepting used and new acoustic or electric guitars for the upcoming school year. San Diego, Calif. (KGTV) - California is the biggest prizes in the 2020 primary and the remaining Democratic presidential candidates are making a final push to turn out voters in San Diego. Much of their final efforts is focused on getting supporters in the South Bay."We're putting people out in their own neighborhoods, talking to neighbors they already know, making sure they're filling out their absentee ballots," said Joe Biden campaign staffer Jack Hurley.Biden opened an office in the Eastlake neighborhood of Chula Vista shortly after the Iowa Caucus. While Biden does not have as big a staff or infrastructure as other campaigns, they have seen a boost in volunteers since Biden won the South Carolina primary. "I want to see change and I wanted Joe Biden to be that change, and that means I needed to get to work," said Russell, who walked in to the Biden office Monday to volunteer.Bernie Sanders has a large organization in San Diego, based out of its headquarters in Barrio Logan. Monday, teams worked in shifts to train volunteers to canvass the South Bay, focused particularly on San Ysidro. "Our goal is turning out voters that a lot of them haven't actually voted before. So we're mainly focused on turnout at this point in time," one staffmember told the volunteers."It was tough in the beginning," said Sanders volunteer France Hanna about his first efforts at doorknocking. "But I realize as I share my personal Bernie story with all the doors that I knock on that I have a lot of commonalities with people."The Sanders campaign is particularly working to utilize a relatively new law in California that allows ballot delivery, meaning that campaign volunteers can pick up voters' ballots and deliver them to be counted. Because Sanders emphasizes turnout out non-traditional voters, especially young voters and people of color, ballot delivery could provide a boon, making it easier people who perhaps may not have gone to the polls to cast a ballot.The Mike Bloomberg campaign is also working to reach LatinX voters in the South Bay. "One of the main things we understand about the South Bay is that there is the most potential to turn out voters," said staffer Jesus Cardenas. Bloomberg has teams of volunteers knocking on doors and making calls. "It's going to be a little bit crazy, but it's going to be fun," Cardenas said. "Our goal is to make sure we get as many people out to the polls as possible." 2437

Hundreds went to the San Diego County Registrar’s Office Saturday, to turn in their ballots three days before election day. The Secretary of State announced that voter registration reached an all-time high in California, with more than 78% of the citizens eligible to vote.  393

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) – A prominent harbor cruise company is continuing to operate despite being cited for violating a County health order. Tuesday afternoon, 10News took video of Flagship Cruises & Events taking passengers aboard for bay tours even after the company was cited by San Diego Harbor Police over the holiday weekend for violating the County's health order 14C which bans recreational boating unless all the passengers are from the same household. Tuesday, a company spokesperson sent the following statement to 10News.“We are part of the Passenger Vessel Association, not recreational boating. They are classifying us under a charter business which is still banned. We DO have a charter business but are not operating any charters at this time. Only public tours and maintaining all safety guidelines set by the city & CDC. We didn’t receive a cease & desist, and will continue to operate our harbor tours & patriot jet boat this week. We open up our dining cruises starting this Friday with Hops on the Harbor – pairing with local brewery, Pizza Port.”Monday night, the company told 10News it's part 14E of the County health order, not 14C. That section states in part, "other public or private outdoor recreational facilities (other than community pools per State order), including recreational equipment (such as bicycle, boat, kayak, equestrian and surfboard) rentals may be open for limited use."During Tuesday’s County press conference, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher told 10News, “The rental items that they're alluding [are for] individual use type things like a bicycle or a kayak or a surfboard and so they are not covered under the current public health order,” and added, “If they continue to operate, they are going to continue to be cited.”Harbor Police say the citation comes with a fine of up to ,000 and up to a year in jail. Harbor Police say they're documenting each sail the company is doing and incorporating those into the original citation that it sent to the City Attorney's Office. 2046

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - A gang member was sentenced to more than 126 years in prison Tuesday for the murder of Navy pilot James Celani at Horton Plaza in 2017."This is not living. This is hell," said Celani's cousin, Sean, who was also shot in the incident. "Mr. Morris killed my happiness and my life."Sean, who asked not to have his last name revealed, and Celani were at the Mad House Comedy Club that night. Upon leaving the club, they walked past a group of men, including Morris. Sean said he offered an innocent greeting, "What's up, brother?" At that point, Morris pulled a gun and opened fire, killing Celani and hitting Sean in the leg. Prosecutors say Morris, who has a history of violence, was angry because of a fight that evening with his girlfriend.Celani's wife spoke during a victim impact statement, describing how she and their three children have suffered since her husband's murder. She called for Morris to get the maximum sentence. "The system couldn't or wouldn't protect Jim and Sean from Arrow Morris, but you can safeguard society from Arrow Morris by letting the punishment fit the crime and sending him to prison for the rest of his life."Morris has 60 days to appeal his sentence. 1221
