CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) – At a virtual hearing on Tuesday, a San Diego judge ordered that the name could be revealed of the teenager who’s accused of killing a woman on a Carlsbad trail. Images of his face, however, were ordered to remain private.17-year-old Haloa Beaudet's defense counsel denies the allegations.He is suspected of stabbing Lisa Thorborg on Hosp Grove trail in November. “His DNA was found on the victim. We have him running on surveillance camera [video] away from the murder scene in a time that's consistent with the time of death,” said a detective.The prosecution showed a surveillance camera image of him running barefoot on the street, away from the trail at 11:25 a.m. on the day that Thorborg died. “We feel that she died at about 11:10 a.m. so that's about 15 minutes after she was murdered,” said the detective.Other surveillance camera images that were shown in the hearing captured the teen on the same trail in the days after the murder.Detectives said that a few days later, he was arrested for prowling on the trail. Once taken into custody, a sample of his DNA was taken. “Ultimately, they found that DNA from [Haloa’s swabs] matched the male DNA on Ms. Thorborg's shorts,” said a detective.Detectives also said that a pair of flip flops that they believe belong to the teen were discovered near Thorborg. His defense attorney argued that Thorborg may have discovered and picked up those flip flops, which was how she got his DNA on her.The teen's attorney said that there's no motive for a murder. His grandmother told the judge that he has no history of violence.The judge decided that the case can move forward.Beaudet’s next hearing is scheduled for January 25th.The teen is ordered to remain in-custody for the time being. 1770

CDC Director Robert Redfield stated on Thursday during the first White House coronavirus task force briefing held since July that schools should remain open during the pandemic, despite a number of major school districts going virtual only in recent weeks.This week, New York City became the latest major school district to close building amid a surge in cases across the country.“Today, there is extensive data that we have gathered over the last two to three months to confirm that k-12 schools can operate with face-to-face learning and they can do it safely and they can do it responsibly," Redfield said. "The infections we have identified in the schools, when they have been evaluating, were not acquired in schools. They were acquired in the community and the household.”CDC data released in October indicated that children can spread the virus within schools, but children under the age of 10 were less likely to do so. The CDC’s data did not find a link between a rise in cases and schools reopening in the fall.Earlier this week, the American Association of Pediatrics noted that over 1 million American children have been infected with the coronavirus."We urgently need a new, nation-wide strategy to control the pandemic, and that should include implementing proven public health measures like mask wearing and physical distancing,” said AAP President Sally Goza. “This pandemic is taking a heavy toll on children, families and communities, as well as on physicians and other front-line medical teams. This longer-term, and likely broader-reaching, dismissal strategy is intended to slow transmission rates of COVID-19 in the community. During extended school dismissals, also cancel extracurricular group activities, school-based afterschool programs, and large events."Dr. Elinore F. McCance-Katz, the assistant secretary for Mental Health and Substance Abuse, said there needs to be a focus on students’ mental health.“We must find a way to alleviate that stress without ignoring the fact that our nation faces the very real and deadly virus,” McCance-Katz said. “The work of schools and the school personnel do daily is valuable beyond any words I can deliver. In addition to education, schools provide their children a profound sense of security and stability for the structure and safety of schools are an integral role of health.”McCance-Katz added that teachers and staff need to feel safe when going to schools, and that communities must do what is needed to minimize community spread.“We must use masks and we must enforce social distancing, we must employ creative and innovative ways to limit the number of children in a building at any given time. CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — The body of an 11-month-old girl whose disappearance prompted an Amber Alert has been found dead in a diaper box, her mother is reportedly in custody. According to WBTV, the mother, 19-year-old Breanna Lewis, had initially told officials that she was walking to her mailbox carrying her daughter when a man violently stole the baby out of her arms. The baby, Harlee Lane Lewis, was found dead a few hours later.Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the body was found inside a diaper box in a field about 1,000 yards behind a home in Chesterfield, South Carolina.Brooks says the Amber Alert was canceled “because we don’t think there was a kidnapping.” The mother was then taken into custody and is being questioned, along with other family members, according to WCIV. The mother has been charged with filing a false police report, according to WSOC. Executive Chairman Robert Iger will give up his salary for the year in light of the coronavirus pandemic, while CEO Bob Chapek will take a 50 percent pay cut, the executives announced Monday.The moves come amid cutbacks in film and TV production and indefinite closures of Disney theme parks, cutting into the Burbank-based company's bottom line.In a company-wide email obtained by The Hollywood Reporter and other media outlets, Chapek wrote that the company is "implementing a variety of necessary measures designed to better position us to weather these extraordinary challenges.""Among them, we will be asking our senior executives to help shoulder the burden by taking a reduction in pay -- effective April 5, all VPs will have their salaries reduced by 20%, SVPs by 25% and EVPs and above by 30%," he wrote."... CEDAR PARK, TX — Three police officers were shot Sunday while responding to a call in Cedar Park, Texas, according to police.The three officers suffered non-fatal injuries while responding to the call on Sunday afternoon and are currently stable at a local hospital.The shooting began an hours-long standoff that lasted throughout the evening on Sunday and well into Monday morning. Two hostages were released from the home on Monday morning at about 8 a.m. CT. About an hour later, a third hostage and the suspect emerged from the home peacefully.Preliminary information obtained by ABC News says the incident started as a domestic dispute. 650
