SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A foot pursuit between police and a suspect ended in an officer-involved shooting in the Logan Heights neighborhood Monday.An officer was trying to contact a 30-year-old Hispanic male, later identified as Enrique Aguilar, at about 3:20 p.m. over what he believed to be a narcotics violation, according to San Diego Police Capt. Tom Underwood. Aguilar fled, prompting a foot pursuit in the area of 3400 National Avenue, police say.Police said during the foot pursuit, Aguilar revealed a handgun.VIDEO: Video captures officer-involved shooting in Logan HeightsPAST OIS INCIDENTS: DA releases body cam footage, reviews several officer-involved shootingsOfficers say they ordered Aguilar to drop his weapon. Police said at one point, Aguilar pointed the handgun at officers, prompting an exchange of gunfire.Aguilar was struck at least once. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.Neither officer, one a 24-year veteran and the other a 2-year veteran, was injured in the shooting. Underwood added there was another male suspect they were searching for connected to the initial narcotics violation.Both directions of the 3200-3500 blocks of National Ave. have been closed to traffic as officers investigate. Police expected the area to be shut down into the evening.Witness video showed the moment officers opened fire on Aguilar, after multiple demands to drop his weapon. Capt. Underwood said both officers were also wearing body cameras.Following policy, the San Diego District Attorney's Office will review the officer-involved shooting. 1679

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 46-year-old Oak Park man is being held without bail in San Diego's Central Jail after San Diego Police say he kidnapped a toddler and molested her.Francisco "Freddy" Diaz faces 8 felony counts, including burglary, kidnapping sexual assault and lewd and lascivious acts on a child under the age of 14. His alleged victim is just three years old.The girl's father, Silvester Soltero told 10News he was working on his car when, unbeknownst to him, the "strange" man who lived next door broke into a bedroom window, grabbing his sleeping daughter.Soltero said Diaz' mother brought his daughter home, but she didn't have her pants. “I grabbed my daughter and I was like, baby what happened?" Soltero said his daughter proceeded to tell him the man touched her private parts.  When the father asked who the man was. Soltero said his daughter pointed out Diaz."I lost it," said Soltero.When the father approached Diaz he became hostile.  “He started screaming if you snitch on me I'll kill you," recalled Soltero.The men fought.  Soltero showed a bruise where he said Diaz tried to poke him in the eye with a fork.Eventually, Diaz ran off, but San Diego Police caught him a short distance away.That's when Soltero said things got worse.  He soon learned his neighbor was a registered sex offender.“They should have told me, they should have told me I was living next to a pedophile, If I had known I wouldn’t have brought my daughter around here, there’s no way in hell," he said.Court records show Diaz was convicted in 2006 for molesting three girls on the playground adjacent to Oak Park Elementary School, which is right across from his mother's house.  He was sentenced to eight years in prison, in part because he already had a criminal history.  In 2000, Diaz was convicted of making a terrorist threat and assault with a deadly weapon.Court records show Diaz is schizophrenic and abuses drugs, specifically methamphetamines. A psychologist is quoted in court documents saying, "If he can remain in treatment, and avoid drug and alcohol abuse, he should not pose a danger to the community's children."12 years later, Diaz finds himself back under the legal microscope.Soltero wants to know why a registered sex offender could live right across from a school full of potential victims, and right next door to the home where Soltero's daughter and three other children live.San Diego Police say Diaz was in full compliance with the terms of Megan's Law.  He is required to check in with police every year and he does so, said Lt. Jason Weeden.  Because Diaz' child molestation convictions were misdemeanors, he doesn't have to steer clear of schools and playgrounds.Silvester Soltero says if that's true, the law should be changed.  “If you’re a sex offender you shouldn’t be by a school, period," he said.Diaz will be arraigned before a judge Wednesday.  Soltero says he will be there to make sure justice is done. 3102

SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) -- For the second straight day, San Diego County has recorded over 400 new COVID-19 cases, health officials announced Saturday.The county is reporting 436 new cases Saturday, bringing the total to 12,837.Officials also reported only six communities outbreaks were identified in the past week which falls beneath the county's community outbreak trigger of seven in seven days.The number of recoveries reached 8,954, while the number of deaths increased by two raising the total to 360 for San Diego County.The deaths reported Saturday were of a woman and a man who died June 25 and their ages were in the early 70s and 80s, officials said. The man who died did not have underlying health conditions.Saturday marked the sixth time in seven days that health authorities reported more than 300 new COVID-19 cases. SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNN) - Actor Will Ferrell is ‘grateful’ for well wishes received after a car crash on Interstate 5 in Orange County Thursday night."While traveling back to Los Angeles after hosting a voter registration event in San Diego, a car carrying Will Ferrell and three of his colleagues was struck on the freeway by another vehicle," read a statement Ferrell's representatives from United Talent Agency.Ferrell and another passenger were "unhurt" and were released from an Orange County hospital, according to UTA.RELATED: Will Ferrell rushed to hospital after crash on I-5Ferrell's longtime driver, Mark Thompson, and his another passenger, identified as Carolina Barlow, remain hospitalized in stable condition, the statement said.Ferrell is "staying close by as his friends are being treated, and has expressed his deep gratitude to the first responders who were immediately at the scene and to the hospital team that took such great care of them," the statement added.Ferrell, 50, was a passenger in an SUV that overturned during a two-car accident late Thursday at Alicia Parkway in Mission Viejo, according to an accident report from the California Highway Patrol.According to the accident report, Ferrell's vehicle was struck when another car veered into its lane. The group tries to attend more than 150 events a year."There's nothing better than going up and getting a high-five from the kids," says local commading officer Todd Mullen.Though over 100 strong, the Imperial Sands Garrison is only part of a much larger network.
