PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — There is a group of retired ladies living in a Pinellas County RV park who have formed their own assembly line when it comes to making masks.They call themselves the Crafty Ladies of Sherwood Forrest RV Resort. They are making hundreds of masks a week, and because the bulk of them go to our veterans, patriotism is a big deal.The red, white and blue runs deep not just in their fabric but their spirit.“I feel helpless with what’s going on with the Covid and this is my tiny little way of contributing,” said Micheal Barsi.Barsi is one of more than a dozen residents who are part of the group. Most of them have two main things in common, they are skilled with a sewing machine and are part of a military family.For the past six years, the Crafty Ladies have been making quilts for the Service Source organization, Veterans Mall. However, when the pandemic hit, they shifted their needle and thread to make masks for veterans.“They had to sacrifice and people who had to sacrifice I want to help as much as I can,” said Nancy Barandon.The Crafty Ladies said the best part is the camaraderie, working together on a project that could save lives.“It does make us feel good to see people using them,” said Jeannie Powell. After nearly six months of investigations, the defense legal team released more than 1,200 graphic evidence photos from inside and outside Breonna Taylor's Louisville apartment.Taylor was shot five times March 13, 2020, while Louisville Metro Police Department officers carried out a no-knock warrant for a drug investigation.Many of the photos were too graphic to show but those released paint a picture of what happened during the raid:Nearly a dozen shell casings are seen scattered across the apartment parking lot; dozens more in the alcove in front of Taylor's apartment which is where LMPD Officer Brett Hankinson's termination letter states he fired 10 rounds through a covered patio door and window.Inside Taylor's apartment, several photos displayed her belongings pierced with bullet holes: her clock, shower, chairs, mirrors, cabinets, pots, inside drawers, shoes as well as walls and ceilings that back up to her neighbors.In Taylor's room, a photo showed a gun under her bed that was legally owned by her boyfriend Kenneth Walker who was with her that night. Walker said he fired one shot when he thought someone was breaking in.A photo of LMPD Officer Anthony James revealed he was wearing a body camera. LMPD previously said no body camera video existed as they said officers were not wearing cameras.Another photo displayed a letter to Taylor from her ex-boyfriend, Jamarcus Glover. For 52 years, Tom Hollett has been scanning the water as a lifeguard. But being a lifeguard in Vancouver, Canada means he also keeps watch over frozen water. “I'd rather make 10,000 rescues in the warm ocean than one here,” Hollett says of the frozen lake.This part of Canada, nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the North Shore Mountains, it’s the only part of the country where the average temperature stays above freezing, even in the winter. So, when the lakes start to freeze over, it’s a novelty. The lake attracts visitors, who are often tempted to tread on the thin ice, often times with their pets. “There’s people that don't understand the ice, so they just figure they can walk on it,” Hollett says. When temperatures are colder, as they have been this week, the City of Vancouver Parks and Recreation department dubs a few of their summer lifeguards, "iceguards." "Lifeguards are always scanning and keeping an eye out, so that's what our iceguards do,” Sean Healy with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation says. “When they come out to iceguard, they actually do a walking patrol around the lake. They also keep binocs close at hand.”Hollett says he’s had to make ice rescues before for people’s pets. “Believe it or not, I’ve saved many dogs,” he recalls. “I grabbed their collar like this, reach out and bring ‘em up in the ice." 1369
