SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested Monday afternoon after police say she stole a vehicle with two children inside.Police say Rodney Cole left his 3-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter in his car with the engine and air conditioner running around noon on the 200 block of Euclid Avenue.After he went into a business, a witness reported seeing a woman, later identified as Leslie Saenz, get into the car and drive away with the children inside.Monday night Cole explained the terrifying ordeal to 10News.His 8-year-old daughter, Malaiha, told police she was able to call the police and tell dispatchers that she and her brother Jackson had been kidnapped. "They said, '911 whats your emergency?' and I said, 'me and my little brother got kidnapped,'" Malaiha said. "and (police) said, 'where are you and what can you see?' and I said, 'signs for the Mexico border.'""(The woman) tried to take the phone away from me but I moved away from her, and she said, 'give it to me, or I’m going to drive in circles and take this car and crash into the freeway wall.'"That's when she gave the phone to the woman, but the police acted quickly.  Roughly 30 minutes later after the car was stolen, Border Patrol detained the woman as she was trying to cross the border into Mexico.  Police have since taken Saenz into custody.Cole told 10News he bought the phone for the kids a few months ago, but it's not an activated line. He taught Malaiha how to call 911 on the phone, in case of emergencies. "I'm very proud of her," he said. 1616

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A homeowner woke up in her Del Cerro home and realized a burglar had been in her room, stealing from her.Just off College Avenue, Kathleen Wavra was sleeping in last Monday morning. Feeling sick, she had taken medication with a sleep aid. Wavra, who is deaf in one ear, was sleeping on her "good ear."She says something jolted her out of sleep around 9:30 a.m.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhood"Startled and stood up and looked immediately at my dresser and saw the missing jewelry boxes," said Wavra.All three jewelry boxes were gone. A panicked Wavra quickly found this: Her front door open with the locks and wood splinters on the ground. The wooden door is about 25 years old.Police believe the intruder either kicked or shoved his way in. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While San Diego's Big Bay Boom and other popular fireworks shows are canceled this year, there are a handful of drive-in style events happening this weekend.In Vista, Poway, El Cajon, and Santee, fireworks displays are being hosted with social distancing in mind. Some of the shows require a ticket purchase to get prime viewing in a physical distancing atmosphere, or viewers can find street parking where allowed.Those who live nearby only need to look out their window!Fireworks displays have been canceled throughout much of California to limit gatherings and curb the spread of COVID-19. At any shows still being held, officials urge viewers to wear facial coverings and social distance around non-household members. Consumer fireworks are illegal in San Diego County and anyone caught using them could face fines or jail time.North CountyVista: Fireworks will be hosted at Brengle Terrace Park starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday. "I'm going to swap them out for something smaller."Fernando Delacruz and his wife bought themselves bicycles to kick start a healthy New Year's resolution."I figured I'm going to need a bike so I can exercise," Delacruz said. "And then my wife said, 'Oh that's a cool Christmas gift for me too!'"The couple bought their bikes at target.com.
