A trip to Detroit has landed a Texas couple in hot water with the law. The couple, John Guerrero and Virginia Yearnd, traveled to Detroit to attend a concert. They are facing charges child endangerment charges for allegedly leaving their 11-year-old daughter at home alone while they were in Michigan.Police say it took them hours to get ahold of the parents, and by the time they called back, they said they were in Louisiana.It appears that the couple expected the mother's sister to be checking on the girl, but investigators say that didn't happen.One of their neighbors, who did not want to be identified, said after living next door for more than a year, she didn't think of the couple as bad parents."I know them as good parents, very hardworking," she said. "He travels and his job is to set up concerts. A new sculpture has been unveiled at Arlington National Cemetery that honors the commitment of our brave military servicewomen.Called “The Pledge,” the life-size statue features a female soldier in a full combat uniform alongside a service dog.A website for the sculptor, Susan Bahary, says the piece is meant to emphasize the capabilities of women, which were attributed to only men not long ago.“’The Pledge’ captures a brief private moment of mutual respect and love, with duty calling,” the website says. “They pledge to support each other, doing the best they can to accomplish their important mission and stay safe.”The sculpture was commissioned by the U.S. War Dogs Association.It will be on display at the Women In Military Service For America Memorial, which The Associated Press reports is the only major national memorial honoring all women who have defended America throughout its history.Click here to learn about visiting the memorial. 958

A professor who made disparaging racial remarks toward a student may be returning to the San Diego State University campus after a forced hiatus.Professor Oscar Monge is scheduled to teach three writing classes in the American Indian Students department for Fall 2018, according to registration records.Monge was suspended in the beginning of 2018 after the California Attorney General's Office said he made discriminatory remarks toward a white student.He referred to white student as a "white savior," a black student as an "Uncle Tom," and another as a "Cherokee princess" according to a state investigator’s report.RELATED: Professor makes?"racial insensitive" remarks“A faculty listing does not constitute a confirmed appointment. The university will begin to process temporary faculty appointments for Fall 2018 during the month of July," an SDSU spokesperson said.Crystal Sudano, one of the students who Monge made comments toward, said this is bad idea.“How much more abuse is San Diego State going to take?” said Sudano, “He’s got everybody by the gonads and everybody’s afraid to do anything.”Monge is currently on administrative leave and has not returned multiple requests for comment. 1240

A new technology is coming to airports to help with passenger screening from home to plane. Denver International Airport will soon be the first to test Daon’s IdentityX platform. It creates a digital identity for each passenger that can be used at kiosks and e-gates, then help travelers schedule times to go through security and get to terminals.That digital identity, called Glide, will also include biometric data and be used for passengers to show their health status using a badge on their cell phone. Down the road, the platform could also mean touchless payments at stores and restaurants.“So what we're trying to do is allow people before they come to the airport, maybe for the first time or maybe for every time, to really begin to feel confident that they can control the time and space elements of their journey,” said Chris McLaughlin, Chief Operating Officer at Denver International Airport.The same technology can be used to improve safety for the thousands of staff and TSA officers that come and go from the airport every day. 1051
