VENICE, Fla. -- A Florida pet groomer is under investigation by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office after a recent video of alleged animal abuse surfaced on social media. The video taken by former Happy Puppy Pet Spa employee Briana Brady, shows another employee putting both hands around a dog's neck and laying it down on the table, leaving Brady to label the action as animal abuse. Brady first witnessed the alleged abuse when another dog left the salon with a broken jaw.“The dog was picked up by the throat, choked, shaken and then his head slammed on the table,” Brady said describing the video. The viral Facebook video has over 250,000 views. Brady worked at the Spa for four weeks prior to posting the video on social media.“It was very hard for me to witness any of that happening," Brady said through tears. The woman in the video who owns the spa, Phyliis Lucca has a different perspective. She claims that her actions weren't abuse, but instead necessary steps for the dog's overall health."If you see the video, I know it looks bad, but that’s not what I’m doing," Lucca explained. “What the dog did was pass out and she faints and what I did was hold her head and shake her. That’s all.”Two weeks prior to the video going public, a puppy named Pumpkin left the spa with a broken jaw and bruises all over his stomach.Lucca claims that Brady was the one responsible."The only one that was in the room alone, with the dog, was Briana.”However, both Brady and Pumpkin's owner, says they believe Lucca was the only one who could've have harmed the dog. The Spa owner hopes to move forward and survive the blow to her business.“If I get through this, I won't have another groomer in the store because nobody can be trusted now.”Brady and Pumpkin's owner say they will be pressing charges against Lucca. 1853

Vaping is being linked to an increased risk of Covid-19 among teenagers and young adults, according to a new study.Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine looked at connections between youth vaping and Covid-19 cases in the U.S. They analyzed online surveys conducted in May by 4,351 people between the ages of 13 and 24.Among teens and young adults who took a coronavirus test, those who vaped were five to seven times more likely to test positive.“Teens and young adults need to know that if you use e-cigarettes, you are likely at immediate risk of COVID-19 because you are damaging your lungs,” said the study’s senior author, Bonnie Halpern-Felsher, PhD, professor of pediatrics. The participants were evenly divided between those who had used e-cigarettes and those who had never used nicotine products.Participants who admitted to using both cigarettes and e-cigarettes in the previous 30 days were almost five times as likely to have Covid-19 symptoms, including coughing, fever, tiredness and difficulty breathing, compared to those who never smoked or vaped.Young people who vaped or smoked, or both, were about two to nine times more likely to receive COVID-19 tests than nonusers.Among those surveyed who had taken a Covid-19 test, those who had used both e-cigarettes and cigarettes in the previous 30 days were 6.8 times more likely to test positive for the coronavirus.“This study tells us pretty clearly that youth who are using vapes or are dual-using [e-cigarettes and cigarettes] are at elevated risk, and it’s not just a small increase in risk; it’s a big one,” said the study’s lead author, postdoctoral scholar Shivani Mathur Gaiha, PhD.Researchers hope their study will be a warning about the dangers of vaping, and also prompt the Food and Drug Administration to consider tighter regulations on vaping products. 1856

Uber Technologies Inc. says George-Jetson style commuting may happen in the next five years as it is currently developing a concept for flying taxis in the U.S.CEO Dara Khosrowshahi on Tuesday morning talked about the company's plan to create on-demand, autonomous flying aircraft designed to shuttle people around.Models of a fleet of "VTOLs" (Vertical?Takeoff and Landing aircraft) will be exhibited at the Uber?Elevate Summit today in Los Angeles. Uber Elevate taxis will be requested via mobile phones, just as rides through the Uber transportaiton service are now, Khosrowshahi said in an interview on television today.Flying taxes are still in the design phase, but the company aims to test them by 2020 and projects operation of them in five years.Uber Elevate has listed the barriers it is considering during the design phase, including safety, battery life, vehicle efficiency, air traffic control and more.Uber's air taxi concept was previously highlighted at the annual CES tech show. 1098

United Airlines has established a new policy for transporting pets in cargo holds that includes banning dozens of dog breeds and several types of cats. The new policy takes effect June 18, when the carrier will resume reservations for its PetSafe program. The airline temporarily stopped the program in March after a series of high-profile incidents involving pets that were lost and others that died on United flights.United said it will be working with American Humane, an animal-welfare group, to improve the well-being of pets that travel on United, both in the cargo hold and in the cabin. Through the rest of the year it will continue to “make enhancements as needed to further improve the safety and care of animal transportation,” United said. 773

Trevor Lawrence, No. 1-ranked Clemson’s Heisman Trophy candidate, will miss Saturday’s game against Boston College after testing positive for COVID-19, Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney confirmed late Thursday. The Clemson quarterback has already thrown for 17 touchdowns and 1,833 yards in five games, helping Clemson to the No. 1 ranking in the nation, according to the Associated Press Top 25 poll.“Trevor has authorized us this evening to announce that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in isolation,” Swinney said. “He is doing well with mild symptoms but will not be available for this week’s game against Boston College. While we certainly will miss Trevor, this is an opportunity for other guys to step up and we’re excited about competing against a very good BC team on Saturday.”The ACC requires teams to screen for COVID-19 48 hours before competitions. All players who test positive must undergo a cardiac exam before being cleared to play. With Saturday marking the first full weekend of college football with the return of the Pac-12, three FBS game have been canceled or postponed due to COVID-19 tests, including two Top 25 matchups: No. 19 Marshall versus Florida International and No. 9 Wisconsin versus Nebraska. 1247
