CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A growing turf war over a fee at the San Diego International Airport is threatening to delay the massive project to revitalize Chula Vista's bayfront about 15 miles south.The Port of San Diego is already clearing land to make way for a new resort and convention center. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A woman narrowly avoided being hit by a falling tree branch on a busy Chula Vista street Wednesday. A large branch fell from the eucalyptus tree along Telegraph Canyon Road about 3 p.m., crashing through the passenger side window of a woman’s car. Had a passenger been in the seat, the person would have been impaled, crews on the scene estimated. The woman pulled into the bike lane to assess the damage. She was able to walk independently but paramedics took her to the hospital for an assessment. No other cars were damaged, officials said. A neighbor told 10News they have seen other branches fall from the same tree. No one has been injured by the other incidents. 706

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) — Three children are recovering Sunday morning after they were struck by a car in the Otay Ranch neighborhood of Montecito Village. The crash happened Saturday just before 5 p.m. on Santa Victoria Avenue, about a block east of Muroaka Elementary School. According to Chula Vista Police, the pedestrians were crossing the street when they were struck by a silver 2018 Toyota Corolla. The children were not in a marked crosswalk.The two younger children were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries, said CVPD officer Justin Zualet. Witnesses at the scene described them in good condition.The 15-year old female was transported in critical but stable condition with a head injury, lacerations, and abrasions.Zualet said all are expected to survive.The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police at the scene said the driver, a male in his 50s, told officers he was using his cell phone at the time of the crash. No further details were given at this time.Drugs and alcohol do not appear factors in the collision, Zualet said. The incident remains under investigation. 1154

Padilla beat COVID-19 after spending weeks in the ICU, 11 days on a ventilator. Padilla says the love and support of the community has been overwhelming. After beating COVID-19 and weeks of recovery, Padilla got back to work as city councilman, while also campaigning for reelection. He won his reelection by a landslide. The councilman says he is incredibly thankful for the healthcare workers still battling this pandemic, especially the ones that saved his life. While he says he's looking forward to the new year and being able to hug people he hasn't hugged in months, he recognizes there is still so much work to be done before the pandemic is under control. 1008
