SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Only in San Diego, an Easter egg hunt on the beach! Hundreds of kids were out in Mission Beach looking for eggs spread out in the sand. Belmont Park hosted the event for the 5th year in a row. Over 13,000 eggs were scattered in the sand, filled with candy, ride wristbands and food vouchers. The hunt was scheduled in age groups so the smaller children would also have a chance to find the prizes. A second Easter egg hunt happened inside of Belmont Park completely free to the public. The event is so popular that some traveled from out of state and even out of the country to have their kids look for the eggs in the sand. Some of the Easter eggs had golden tickets inside, with prizes worth up to .  763

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Huey Lewis and The News fans disappointed by the band’s canceled concerts have a chance to enjoy its hit songs at a musical, Heart of Rock and Roll, set to debut at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre in September.Lewis, the band’s lead singer and namesake, announced Friday he was dealing with the sudden loss of his hearing."Two and a half months ago, just before a show in Dallas, I lost most my hearing," Lewis said in a message to his fans Friday. "Although I can still hear a little, one on one, and on the phone, I can't hear music enough to sing."Lewis went on to explain that doctors believe he has the inner ear disorder Meniere's disease and said he should not perform until he improves."Needless to say, I feel horrible about this, and wish to sincerely apologize to all the fans who've already bought tickets and were planning to come see us," Lewis added. "[I] hope that one day soon I'll be able to perform again."Fans will be able to hear the 80s rocker’s hits in Heart of Rock and Roll, which runs September 6 through October 21. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Tuesday evening, San Diego’s City Council approved a strategy that will make it easier to create housing in commercial areas.The changes allow more businesses to add living spaces and authorize more locations where live/work quarters are permitted.The move created an amendment to the rules currently in place on living and working quarters as part of an earlier update to San Diego’s land development code.“This is going to put underutilized commercial and industrial spaces to work in tackling San Diego’s housing crisis,” Mayor Faulconer said. “Lifting restrictions on housing will bring new life to old buildings and allow businesses owners to live where they work. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While fall-like temperatures lingered around San Diego County for a few days, a heatwave is on the way.Above-average temperatures are expected throughout the week with a heat advisory in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 5 p.m. Friday.With many people still working and learning from home, you may have noticed higher energy usage on your electricity bill.“We’re dealing with some unusual and extreme situations this year given the COVID-19 pandemic and also extreme temperatures,” said Jessica Packard, communications manager for San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE). “Look at conserving energy when you can, I know that’s easier said than done.”She said the key to bringing down that SDG&E bill is to avoid energy usage between 4 and 9 p.m.This time spent working from home can also come in handy.“If you are home working, try to maybe run the dishwasher during your lunch hour when you normally wouldn’t because you’d be in the office,” she said.To help during this pandemic, SDG&E has suspended service disconnections for those who can’t afford to pay their utility bill. SDG&E is also offering flexible payment plans.Based on annual household income, people who qualify can also sign up for state and federal programs to get discounts on monthly energy bills.“Look at some of our customer programs and assistance options if you’re really struggling and want us to cater maybe something to help you get through this difficult time,” said Packard.The hot and dry conditions across the county also cause fire concerns to grow. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- U.S Customs and Border Protection apprehended two suspects wanted in connection to both an attempted homicide and a homicide Wednesday afternoon. According to CBP, the incident began Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry after a 35-year-old U.S. citizen entered the crossing with two other U.S. citizen passengers, a 37-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman. The vehicle was escorted to a secure location for processing after officers were alerted that one of the travelers was wanted. After investigating the situation, officers learned that the driver, Monica Cecilia Jimenez was wanted for attempted murder and Omar Alapizco was wanted for homicide by the Oceanside Police Department for the same crime. U.S. Marshals and the Oceanside Police Department responded and took custody of both Jimenez and Alapizco. 861
