A Montana health official said Monday the increasing number of cases of COVID-19 is concerning, and the numbers will get worse if people don’t take appropriate prevention measures to keep from contracting or spreading the virus.On the day Montana set a new single-day high with 56 new COVID-19 cases, Yellowstone County, which encompasses Billings and surrounding areas, added 14 cases. Many of the new positive cases are coming from family get-togethers, according to Yellowstone County Health Officer John Felton.“Many of these cases are related to gatherings, like barbecues and weddings where summertime fun is turning into infection and disease," said Felton.Felton says most of the people testing positive have shown symptoms and only three positives have come from a recent community testing event at MetraPark. He is encouraging everyone to continue to social distance and says masks do make a difference."Clearly when people are masked they reduce the chance of spread of disease. The main thing that (a) mask does: it prevents that masked person from expressing droplets that could be infected. If both people in a conversation are masked they are each protecting each other. It's not controversial in public health. I understand that there is some kind of political and social elements to that, but it's not a public health controversy whatsoever," said Felton.Felton says he believes the driving force behind the increase in cases is clearly that people are getting together more than they were before.As of Monday, Yellowstone County has reported 55 active cases of COVID-19 and 165 cumulative cases since the beginning of the outbreak. A new report card is out for dozens of fast-food restaurants, and overall, most failed when it comes to serving antibiotic-free beef.Only two of the restaurant chains received an A grade for having no antibiotics in their beef. Those two included the up-and-coming chain BurgerFi and Shake Shack. The remaining top 22 burger chains failed to pass the test. "We know that change can happen,” says Mark Morgenstein, spokesperson for U.S. PIRG, a consumer and health advocacy group. “We just need the market pressure to be applied.”The organization is just one of many pushing for safer foods and antibiotic-free farms.   "The problem starts at the beginning,” Morgenstein says. “It starts on the farm." According to the CDC, it’s estimated drug-resistant superbugs kill 23,000 people in America each year.Just this past year, health groups made progress in getting chains to go antibiotic-free with their chicken."When there was pressure from McDonald’s and KFC and Subway not to use antibiotics in chicken, guess what? A Texas jail guard suffered a heart attack two years ago, and if not for a group of inmates, he could have lost his life, WFAA-TV reported.Gary Grimm of Weatherford, Texas is thankful for those inmates who gave the now 52-year-old retired jail guard a second-chance at life."Instead of overtaking me and taking my gun, and killing me or taking a hostage and escaping, they looked at me as a human being," Grimm told WFAA. The inmates reportedly had to knock down a locked gate to get to Grimm after they realized he was having a medical emergency. The group of eight inmates were able to get the attention of others in the jail, who were able to help Grimm seek medical attention. Grimm never got the opportunity to personally thank the inmates as they were transferred to other institutions."I get emotional. If they wished harm for me, all they had to do was sit there and do nothing," Grimm told WFAA. Grimm said he treated inmates the way he would want to be treated. Perhaps, that is why they came to his aid when he needed it."I don't care if they're a drug user, hot check writer, or child molester. They're still a human being. I don't have to like what they did, but it's not my position to be the judge and jury," Grimm told the station. 1275

A new video is sparking debate on whether a father went too far in disciplining his daughter for bullying.“My beautiful daughter is going to walk 5 miles to school in 36-degree weather,” says the Matt Cox, in a video posted to his Facebook page.It's the latest example of a parent shaming their child.In the video, Cox explains his 10-year-old daughter was suspended from riding the school bus for a second time after bullying another student.
