SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Department of Public Health is warning the public after a recall was issued for nearly 50,000 pounds of sausage products due to contamination.According to the department, the products may contain pieces of white, hard plastic. Eddy Packaging Co. Inc. recalled the smoked sausage products due to the contamination.The products were sold at Walmart stores in San Diego, Chula Vista, National City, Oceanside, Poway, Santee and La Mesa.The products being recalled have the establishment number "EST. 4800" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were also shipped to food service and retail locations in Georgia, Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. So far, there have been no reports of illness due to the products. Check below for a list of products or click here for a full list of locations where the products were sold: 888

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The California Highway Patrol has ruled out street racing and DUI as causes of a crash on Interstate 805 in Sorrento Valley that left a man with serious injuries. Traffic came to a standstill in the northbound lanes of the freeway about 2 p.m. when a silver Mercedes SUV hit the driver of a blue Nissan. Witnesses told the CHP the Nissan suddenly stopped in a lane and the driver got out of the car. CHP says the Nissan became disabled and the driver got out of the car after pulling off to the side of the road. The Nissan’s driver was struck and thrown 135 feet before landing on the pavement. The CHP said the man had severe head injuries. A total of four cars were involved in the resulting pileup. Three people were taken to the hospital, San Diego Fire-Rescue reported, but no one aside from the Nissan's driver was seriously hurt. The other drivers stopped and cooperated with the investigation. The affected lanes of the freeway reopened about four hours after the crash.The Nissan was recently purchased, according to the CHP. Investigators said the driver might be a member of the military. 1127

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The downtown building at 101 Ash Street has been sitting vacant for most of the last four years and as it continues to sit empty, taxpayers are footing the ,000 per day bill.City Council leaders voted 5-4 — with Council members Vivian Moreno, Monica Montgomery, Barbara Bry, and Georgette Gómezto voting in opposition — to request monthly updates on the building's status and costs for several options presented by Mayor Kevin Faulconer's office.The mayor's options included putting millions of dollars more into the building for the needed repairs, buying out the lease, pursue a new landlord, trying to renegotiate its lease, or walking away entirely, the last of which could risk litigation and credit damage.The coronavirus pandemic has cleared out office buildings across downtown San Diego. But emptiness is business as usual for the old Sempra building at 101 Ash.In 2016, the city approved a lease-to-own agreement for the building, valued at million. The idea was to move upwards of 1,100 city employees into the facility.But officials quickly discovered a series of problems requiring major renovations to the site's 19 floors.In December 2019, the city finally began moving workers into the building, only to vacate them a month later when the county found traces of asbestos.So how did the city get into this mess? A new investigation shows it really never did its homework for such a big purchase from the start.The law firm Hugo Parker found that, "at no time, however, did the city formally inspect 101 Ash before closing escrow."In January, councilmember Barbara Bry showed ABC 10News a document that the city accepted the property as is."That is stupid to do when you are doing a long-term lease purchase on a building that was built in the 1960s," Bry said.An additional new report from Kitchell says the building needs 5 million of repairs, which is well more than what the city paid for it. 1947

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The final panel of a 14-mile stretch of the Primary Border Wall project was installed Friday, marking a turning point for U.S. Border Patrol, according to Border Patrol officials.Now there is more updated fencing in place compared to aging infrastructure. The stretch of new fencing replaced stamped steel, that's easy to climb, originally installed in the 1990's.The 18-30-foot steel bollard stretches a quarter of a mile from the ocean, to Otay Mountain. The old wall was breached more than 1,700 times, according to Border Patrol officials.RELATED: Funds earmarked for defense can be used for border wall, Supreme Court rules"Any upgrade we can get we'll take, this wall's been around for 30 years," Border Patrol Public Affairs Officer Theron Francisco said.The transparent feature of the new wall, vital for Border Patrol agents. Fiscal year to date, 149 incidents were reported, compared to 72 last year.Last April migrants hurled rocks at San Diego Border Patrol officers, shattering their Jeep's window. With that, it means less agents have to field a certain area," Francisco said. He said that means an area with seven agents could go down to two or three.As for who paid for the wall, each Border Patrol agent said the Trump administration.
