HONG KONG, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- A chartered plane, carrying the bodies of the eight victims, victims' relatives and survivors in the hostage crisis in Philippine capital Manila, arrived at the Hong Kong International Airport on Wednesday evening.Following the arrival, an around-90-minute condolence ceremony was held at the airport, with a senior Hong Kong official and the victims' relatives laying wreaths on the coffins.In a speech after the ceremony, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong government Henry Tang urged the Philippine government to provide a detailed account of the causes of death and injury.COMING HOMEThe chartered plane of Cathay Pacific flight number CX 2903, which carried the coffins bearing the bodies of the victims, victims' relatives, several survivors and their kins, arrived in Hong Kong at 7:50 p.m. local time (1150 GMT).The chartered flight took off around 6:19 p.m. local time in Manila after a brief farewell ceremony.The eight slain Hong Kongers and the survivors were among the 21 Hong Kong tourists who were caught in a 11-hour hostage crisis in Manila on Monday. XIANGNING, Shanxi, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Eight miners trapped for 35 hours in a flooded colliery in north China's Shanxi Province were saved early Friday, rescuers said. One miner is still missing.The eight survivors were taken to hospital for treatment. They are in stable conditions, said Li Youcai, deputy chief of Shengping Coal Mine Workers' Hospital in Taitou Town.They are expected to recover and be discharged from hospital in one week, Li said.The first four survivors were rescued and sent to hospital at around 2:30 a.m.; the other four miners were helped out of the pit at around 4:10 a.m., rescuers saidThe eight survivors were known to be alive and had been in close contact with the rescuers via phone after the Shengping Coal Mine in Jixian County where they worked was flooded with torrential rain water Wednesday.The accident happened at around 5 p.m. when 23 miners were performing repair work underground. Fourteen miners managed to escape.Rescuers were still trying to find out the whereabouts of the last missing miner, who lost contact with the others after the flood.The Shengping Coal Mine, owned by the Shanxi Coal Transportation and Sales Group Co., Ltd., has an annual output of 900,000 tonnes.

BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The number of criminal explosion cases as well as gun crimes in China dropped by 13.4 and 33.1 percent year on year, respectively, in the first five months of 2010, Ministry of Public Security said in a statement Monday.The statement, however, did not provide exact numbers.Police nationwide seized over 351 tonnes of explosives, 1.7 million detonators, 15,000 guns, 1.84 million bullets, 300,000 imitation guns and 170,000 illegal knives since the launching of a national crackdown on illegal explosive and guns, the statement said.The widespread publicity about the police crackdown apparently paid off with 3,099 tips received from the public which led to the solving of 1,538 cases and the arrest of 2,065 suspects, said the statement.Those who provided information to police were rewarded with 960,000 yuan (about 141,000 U.S. dollars) in total, it said.
