SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A person fell at least 14 feet down an elevator shaft at a downtown property Tuesday.The person was reportedly working at the property at 625 Broadway when the fall occurred.San Diego Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue team responded, hoisting the worker out and transporting the person to a nearby hospital.The worker had injuries to their leg but they were conscious and believed to be okay.No further information was immediately available. 476

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A program at the East Mesa Reentry facility is helping inmates transition out of jail and back into the workforce.This program is offering inmates certificates in trades which include welding, construction, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and more. The participants study and earn these certificates for free. The reentry program is helping over 700 men head back into the workforce in a positive way.“It’s something that they can give back to the community later on in life, where at one point they took away, but now they feel like they actually achieved something,” said Detron Williams. Williams is a few months away from earning a trade certificate in construction.The reentry program not only focuses on education but also helps inmates understand their emotions and build confidence. “They’ve built the confidence now, and they have learned the different techniques so that when they are out in the community they can either start a new life or they can go back to the work that they previously had,” Matt Russo said.For Williams and the other inmates he has talked to, this program also provides a sense of accomplishment.“Now they are building structures that later on in the future they can drive by and say I built that, I helped that,” Williams said. 1301

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local Marine Corps veteran will be part of the National Memorial Day Concert in Washington, D.C. He'll be honored for his service, and the work he does with other veterans who have PTSD.Bill Rider is the founder of American Combat Veterans of War, a non-profit that he started in 2013."We let them know we're going to be there for them, we mentor them," Rider said about his group. "Just about anything and everything they could possibly need, ACVOW does."ACVOW runs programs that help veterans cope with PTSD. Their "Veterans Moving Forward" program visits vets at the Vista Detention Center. Its goal is to reduce recidivism rates to below 10% for veterans.Another program called Safe Warrior Outreach pairs younger veterans with older veterans to talk through their struggles and share stories."We're trying to chip away at the stigma of PTSD," said Rider. "Human beings were not meant to watch their friends be killed in such a visceral way. And, they're not meant to kill other human beings."It's an issue he has first-hand experience with. Rider joined the Marine Corps when he was 19 years old and was part of the 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment. That regiment became famous for its part in the battle of Khe Sahn, where it had the highest casualty rate in Marine Corps history."It was, on a daily basis, a visceral passing of Marines and warriors," said Rider. "In one battle, we lost 45 or 50 people, and another 150 were wounded."Rider left the Marines in 1969. When he returned home, it wasn't long before the lingering effects of PTSD started to show."The way I knew something was quite different was when I was transferred back to my little hometown in Ohio. A car backfired, and I instinctively laid out on the sidewalk, expecting more shots," he said.Now he's dedicated his life to helping other vets who deal with PTSD. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego donut shop is taking a classic Easter treat to a whole new level.The Donut Bar in downtown San Diego is stuffing Cadbury eggs inside donuts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A marijuana delivery driver was robbed at gun point and shot in North Park late Friday.According to San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims, the 21-year-old victim was making a delivery in the 2000 block of Haller Street at about 9:01 p.m. when a gunmen approached his vehicle and demanded marijuana.Related: Million dollar Fed?cartel seizureThe driver grabbed the suspect's gun and as they wrestled for the weapon the driver was shot twice in the right hand.
