SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 140 women, children and their family members will live inside Golden Hall for at least the next three months.The theater's second floor concourse will serve as a temporary bridge shelter while the city installs a new shelter tent at the corner of 17th and Imperial. Father Joe's Villages will manage the shelter, which is to serve as a transition for homeless families to find permanent housing and get on their feet. A recent city report found about 1,500 people were sleeping on San Diego's streets. The families moving into Golden Hall had been living in a bridge tent shelter at 14th and Commercial. That shelter is being removed to make way for a Father Joe's 14-story affordable housing tower. Golden Hall will have on-site residential staff and security 24 hours a day. Deacon Jim Vargas, president of Father Joe's Villages, said Golden Hall's location will present challenges when it comes to delivering key services out of Father Joe's main campus across downtown. He said these next few months will be a good test to see if something longer term could work. "I personally would love, in addition to the tent, to have some brick and mortar," said Vargas. "And if this facility works out well we'd be happy to continue as a service provider."The city is installing the new tent at 17th and Commercial over the next few months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have identified the man suspected of stabbing a 55-year-old to death in the Midway District Thanksgiving Day. According to San Diego Police, Forrest Robert Brantley, 38, stabbed 55-year-old Robert Frank Erbe around 8 a.m. November 28 on the 3100 block of Sports Arena Boulevard. Erbe was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.RELATED: Police identify man killed in Midway District stabbingAfter investigating the stabbing, police learned that Brantley and Erbe got into some sort of fight before Brantley is accused of stabbing Erbe in the neck. Brantley was last seen walking away from the scene. He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, police say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating a possible road rage incident that ended with a car crashing into a tree in Scripps Ranch.According to San Diego police, the crash happened just after 11 p.m. Monday on Scripps Ranch Boulevard and Spring Canyon Road.Police said a couple in a silver SUV called 911 and claimed a black car intentionally backed into them, causing the black car to lose control before crashing into a tree.However, the driver of the black car said he accidentally cut off the SUV, so they then hit him from the back and forced him to crash.The incident remains under investigation, as police try to sort out the full details of the episode.No injuries were reported. 699

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was shot Sunday outside of a College Area smoke shop, according to police.It wasn't immediately clear what led to the shooting, but San Diego Police confirmed that a 20-year-old man had been shot just before 5:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of El Cajon Blvd., outside of Aztec Smoke & Vape Shop.The victim was hit in the leg and chest and taken to a nearby hospital, but their condition was not clear.The area was closed by police for the investigation.10News is monitoring this breaking news.
