(KGTV) - San Diego County residents who bought homes in the 90s are reaping the benefits of a hot housing market. Homebuyers who purchased their properties 20 years ago are “sitting pretty” in 2019, according to a study by GOBankingRates. The study ranked 15 California cities by property appreciation rates. Six of the top 10 increases were in the San Francisco area. Two Los Angeles-area cities, Santa Monica and Newport Beach, finished first and second on the list, respectively. The only San Diego County city on the list of top 20 locations for home appreciation was Encinitas. In 1999, the median home value in Encinitas was 3,500. The figure now stands at ,198,000, marking a 248.8 percent increase in value over 20 years, the study reports. The five-year rental income on an Encinitas home is 9,688, according to the study. (KGTV) -- Rideshare company Uber may temporarily put its operations in California on pause in light of its challenge of a state bill that reclassifies its drivers as employees.Earlier this week, a judge sided against Uber’s challenge to Assembly Bill 5. Under the bill, Uber will be forced to provide reclassified drivers with employee benefits such as health care and paid time off.Uber has previously said AB5, authored by San Diego-based state Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, limits its drivers’ flexibility and puts a financial strain on the company.In an interview with MSNBC on Wednesday, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company’s fight against the bill may put its rideshare service in California on hold until November, when ballots come in on Proposition 22, a measure that would classify drivers as contractors.“If the court doesn’t reconsider, then in California, it’s hard to believe we’ll be able to switch our model to full-time employment quickly,” Khosrowshahi told MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle.Uber and fellow rideshare company Lyft both said they would appeal the judge’s ruling, which takes effect Aug. 20. 1131

(KGTV) - Attorneys for a former student of the Bishop’s School in La Jolla announced Tuesday a child sexual abuse lawsuit against the elite private school and the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego. The man claims he was repeatedly molested by a female computer science teacher starting when he was 16 years old. 10News has reached out to the San Diego Police Department and The Bishop's School about the allegations but neither have commented at this time. Calls to the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego were unanswered Tuesday afternoon.The alleged abuse included sexual intercourse on campus, at [the defendant's] house, and other La Jolla and San Diego area locations, the lawsuit states. “On multiple occasions, teachers and Bishop’s Headmistress saw [the Plaintiff] exiting the computer lab together, with no other person in the room,” the plaintiff's attorneys said in a news release. The teacher was 32 years old at the time the alleged affair started, and was married with children, according to the release. In the release, attorney and victim’s advocate Vince Finaldi describes a long history of "criminal sexual activity" at the prestigious private high school."The Bishop’s School is a prestigious institution which charges parents more than ,000 per year in tuition. They advertise their affiliation with the Episcopal Dioceses as a way to assure parents of the moral rectitude of the school. Yet, they failed miserably in their most basic responsibility—keeping their students safe from sexual predators.” In May of this year, 10News reported that the school investigated numerous claims of sexual abuse at the campus. The school said that "14 alumni have come forward to report incidents of sexual misconduct."The school also reported then that "ten different perpetrators were identified as having engaged in sexual misconduct that would potentially constitute a crime at the time of occurrence."READ: The Bishop's School dealing with multiple claims of sexual misconduct spanning several decadesTuesday's news release included a statement from the plaintiff saying they want to keep their name private per "of every victim of child sexual assault in California." A 3-year-old girl was found safe after spending almost 24 hours in the woods on her own.Abby Ladwig went missing August 9, along with her family’s dog Peanut. Abby lives in Sawyer County, Wisconsin, in the northern section of the state and surrounded by forests. Local media reports the girl walked away while her father stepped inside for a few minutes.Her mother, Lisa Koch, posted on Facebook along with pictures of Abby and Peanut. In her initial post, she asks for help in finding Abby, who was last seen walking with the dog. 539
