CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A former longtime employee of the Sweetwater Union High School District pleaded not guilty Tuesday afternoon to felony charges of embezzlement. Danya Williams, 42, is charged with embezzling more than ,000 over 18 months beginning in June of 2017. Williams worked for the district for 17 years in the accounting department and most recently human resources. According to prosecutors, she was in charge of taking money orders to pay for background checks of job applicants. She's accused of altering the money orders; making them payable to herself. Prosecutors say she deposited 800 money orders into her own personal account. "Some that weren't hired can request them back. When some of them were asked for them back, they discovered they were never deposited into an account," said Deputy District Attorney Kimball Denton. Williams resigned from the district when the allegations surfaced. She's out of jail on a ,000 bond. She could face four years in prison if convicted. She has no criminal record. "It's very disappointing and sad when people who we trust within our school communities do brazen things like this that breach that trust and we're going to be holding her accountable for her actions." "She probably ranks in the top ten of the most nervous I've ever had. She's about to have a breakdown today. She's extremely nervous, and again, she's the nicest person you'll ever meet. In the lot on Main Street and Fourth Avenue, visitors can buy anything from fish tacos and flowers to Mexican food and coffee.Just Coffee opened up about two weeks ago and owner Tyler Detweiler said he knew it was a bold move to start a new business in the middle of a pandemic, but it’s been successful so far.“People come here with the best moods. They’ve been making their own coffee for three months, four months now, and they want to go get a coffee that tastes like real coffee from a real espresso machine,” said Detweiler.He said another draw has been thanks to his business partner, the owner of Keto Dessert Company. (KGTV) - After hours of listening to public comment, the Chula Vista Planning Commission decided to table and continue an item that would bring a new recreational storage facility to the city's Eastlake area. The proposed facility would store 80 to 100 vehicles, like boats or RVs, on land between Eastlake High School and Antigua, a gated town-home community.Homeowners begged the planning commission to not accept the plans for the facility saying it would be an eyesore for their properties and lower their property values. The property manager of Titan Storage also made his case before the commissioners, citing the need for the facility in a part of town that is growing quickly. RV owners asked the commission to consider accepting the plan because they say surrounding RV lots are full, forcing them to store their vehicles across town. Ultimately, three commissioners said they could not support the plan as presented and voted instead to continue the item to a future date, giving the storage company time to present a revised plan. So far, no date is scheduled for the next public hearing on this issue. 1143

(KGTV) - Customers narrowly avoided being hit by an out-of-control truck that struck a Chula Vista bank Tuesday, sending cash flying.Four people were using the ATMs in a vestibule at the Chase bank at 1120 Broadway about 12 p.m. when the Dodge Ram truck crashed through the glass entryway.Three customers dodged the truck, which came dangerously close to Anna Gonzalez.“I’m shaking; I have a big angel with me,” said Gonzalez.Gonzalez had tried to use an ATM but when it didn’t work, she moved to another machine. The first machine was the one hit by the pickup. Three other customers in the vestibule dodged the truck.Irene Archuleta was cut by glass from the vestibule’s shattered windows.“Regular day, going to the ATM to withdraw some money. The next you know there was a truck right next to me,” said Archuleta. “Definitely an angel looking over us.”An elderly man was injured and taken to the hospital, along with two bank employees who were in another room and thrown from their desks upon impact.There was no immediate word on the severity of the injuries.The driver, who was not identified, was not injured, according to Chula Vista Fire Captain Francisco Soto.Chula Vista Police are looking into the cause of the crash.Firefighters said the crash did not damage a load bearing wall, making it possible for them to remove debris and return cash to the bank. 1399
