GUATAY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A family in the East County is hoping someone has information about a bicycle accident that happened Saturday afternoon in Guatay, just north of Pine Valley. Ann Larkin says her husband, Warren Larkin, was returning from a bike ride along old Highway 80, and was just feet away from his home, when a good Samaritan found him in the middle of the road. Larkin was airlifted to Sharp Memorial Hopsital with 10 broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a broken clavicle. He doesn't remember anything about the crash.Ann tells 10News she doesn't want to speculate but worries that someone hit her husband on his bike and took off, since hospital staff told her his injuries were more traumatic than just falling off a bike. The Larkin family is now hoping that by sharing their story, they can find someone who witnessed the accident and can provide clues about what happened. 899

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A Grand Rapids teen is making sure your morning cup of coffee stays brewing for years to come with the launch of her new coffee line, Joven Coffee."Joven means 'young' in Spanish, so that is why we chose it because we're supporting young farmers," said Frankie Volekma, founder of Joven Coffee.At 14, Frankie is the youngest coffee Q grader in the world and is launching the coffee line to support the next generation of coffee farmers."We're just trying to make it a viable career option for a lot of these young farmers because a lot of times it's a low paying career to be in coffee farming," she said.In coffee producing countries like Columbia and regions of Africa, farmers are primarily 57 years old or older.Frankie's concern is those farmers will eventually retire, and there won't be enough young farmers to take their place."I think it's an important issue, and you're going to hear more about it over time," said Frankie's dad, Tim Volekma, owner of Sparrow Coffee and Schuil Coffee. He urged Democrats to join in negotiations.“We have one foot in the pandemic and one foot in the recovery,” McConnell said Monday calling the timing of the legislation a “crossroads” for the country.The HEALS Act will include a second round of stimulus funds for the same group of Americans who received the last stimulus check. The previous economic stimulus check was ,200 for most American adults making less than ,000 per year. McConnell said there will be additional assistance for those caring for adult vulnerable dependents.The HEALS Act will also include replenishing Paycheck Protection Program funds, which were given to businesses to help keep employees on payroll during the height of the pandemic.The act will also include a supplement for unemployment, which ran out last week. Since the spring, the federal government provided a 0 per week supplement to unemployment checks. But there is still a disagreement on how much this supplement should be, as President Donald Trump and some Congressional Republicans complained that the supplement gave an incentive to lower income employees to not return to work.Schumer said that the Republican proposals do not go far enough, and criticized McConnell for not submitting a single bill, but instead a series of proposals.“The Republican proposal will ignore not one or two or three but scores of major crises in America right now,” Schumer said. “In addition, based on what the leader has said, the Republican proposal won't go nearly far enough, even if the pieces they try to do something with, the small number, the disparate number, the unaggregated number, since each piece seems to be separate because they can't seem to get agreement among themselves.”The issue, Schumer says, is that the White House has its own set of proposals its ready to outline. (AP) — Police in Alabama on Saturday were searching for a gunman whom they believe was responsible for shooting two teenagers at a shopping mall on Thanksgiving night.The incident began with a fight and shooting in suburban Birmingham at the Riverchase Galleria, a mall crowded with Black Friday bargain hunters. An 18-year-old was shot twice and a 12-year-old bystander was shot in the back.An officer responding to the scene then shot and killed 21-year-old Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford, Jr. of Hueytown. Police said Bradford was fleeing the scene and was brandishing a weapon.Police initially told reporters they thought Bradford had shot the teen after a fight but retracted that statement Friday night."New evidence now suggests that while Mr. Bradford may have been involved in some aspect of the altercation, he likely did not fire the rounds that injured the 18-year-old victim," Hoover Police Captain Gregg Rector said in a statement.Police said they "regret that our initial media release was not totally accurate."Rector said investigators now believe that more than two people were involved in the initial fight ahead of the shooting, and that "at least one gunman" is still at large who could be responsible for the shooting of an 18-year-old male and 12-year-old female.Video posted on social media by shoppers showed a chaotic scene as shoppers fled the mall, which closed for the remainder of Thursday night.The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has taken the lead role in the investigation since it is an officer-involved shooting.Hoover police asked for anyone with information, photos or video evidence of this crime scene to please contact investigators.A witness, Lexi Joiner, told Al.com she was shopping with her mother when the gunfire started. Joiner said she heard six or seven shots and was ordered, along with some other shoppers, into a supply closet for cover."It was terrifying," Joiner said.A woman who described herself as the mother of the injured 12-year-old posted on social media that the girl was on a Black Friday shopping trip with other family members when the shooting happened, and didn't immediately realize that the pain in her back was from a bullet."She was hurting a lot, but very brave and positive as always," the mother wrote after seeing the girl when she arrived at a hospital.Hoover police said Friday morning that the girl was in stable condition.The officer who shot the gunman was placed on administrative leave while the authorities investigate the shooting.
