"They don't make insulin. They get very skinny and we have to give them insulin. There really isn't a lot of other treatments for these Type 1 diabetics.”A shortage of insulin in drug form poses major challenges. "So those with Type 2 diabetes, many of them can take pills, but if they are in poor control we have to give them insulin," Wachs said.Wachs said insulin is expensive to make. She says only three major pharmaceutical companies make it. And the demand isn't the highest here in the United States but other parts of the world, including Africa and Asia. In a new effort to tackle the deadly opioid addiction crisis in the US, pharmacy giant CVS announced on Friday it will limit opioid prescriptions to seven days for certain conditions. This restriction will apply to patients who are new to pain therapy.The new pharmacy program will also limit the daily dosage of pain pills based on their strength and will require use of immediate-release formulations before extended release opioids -- intended for severe, long-term pain treatment -- are dispensed.The changes will roll out on February 1, 2018 and cover all commercial, health plan, employer and Medicaid clients.CVS, which manages medications for nearly 90 million plan members, is one of the largest pharmaceutical chains in the US, with approximately 9,600 CVS Pharmacy stores and more than 1,100 walk-in medical clinics."With a presence in nearly 10,000 communities across the country, we see firsthand the impact of the alarming and rapidly growing epidemic of opioid addiction and misuse," said Larry J. Hours after two Atlanta Police officers were charged in connection with the death of Rayshard Brooks, the department confirmed that an unspecified number of officers are calling off tonight.The city’s Mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms, told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that some officers are being asked to extend their shift on Wednesday. Bottoms added that other jurisdictions have been notified and were asked to be on standby to provide the city with assistance.Despite reports on social media, Atlanta Police denied that officers are walking off the job.“The department is experiencing a higher than usual number of call outs with the incoming shift,” the department confirmed on Twitter. “We have enough resources to maintain operations & remain able to respond to incidents.”Bottoms acknowledged to Cuomo that officer morale is an issue.Earlier on Wednesday, Garrett Rolfe, who was fired from the Atlanta Police Department following the shooting, was charged with felony murder and 10 other crimes, including four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and several violations of his oath of office.Officer Devin Brosnan has been charged with aggravated assault and several violations of his oath of office.
